Although the writing and story idea were compelling, I was overall disappointed with this novel. I have enjoyed other books by this author-- which provided alluring characters and plots, but in this novel I could not relate to any of the characters and halfway through reading I lost interest in the plot. Providence seemed at first to be a mystery plot wrapped in a romance, but in the end I was left feeling like something was missing because the mystery was not solved, and the story only focused on the romance.
I honestly loved the Frankenstein/detective aspects of this story way more than the romance that was driving forward a lot of the plot. Chloe’s character also irritated me, but maybe because she’s an extreme people-pleaser to the point of being with someone like Carrig (barf). Anyway, my fave part of Kepnes’ writing is her voice which makes me laugh out loud - I would say it’s definitely worth reading YOU for that!

Let's get this out of the way: I loved YOU and HIDDEN BODIES, and this is a whole different thing.
And that said: I really liked it.
Some knowledge of Lovecraft might help here (but there's enough detail in the novel so that you won't be left behind if you aren't a Lovecraftian). PROVIDENCE has the impossible love-story and the dear-God-what-do-I-do-with-this-horrendous-power horror and two characters you want to root for despite the odds.
My thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book.

I couldn't even finish this because it was confusing and boring, all at the same time, which is surprising because I have enjoyed her other books.
Idk maybe I’m stupid but I didn’t quite get the plot :/ I really wanted to like it because I love YOU but this just wasn’t for me.
A tale of love unlike most. Halfway through the book I felt like I was on a runaway train. I knew it was going somewhere and I wanted to get there. I bought into the characters. Not sure it ended with enough closure, but the resolution reached was satisfactory.
SPOILER FREE REVIEW AHEAD This author has a distinct style of writing! I am such a fan. Her almost rapid fire type of writing keeps me engaged and wanting more every time. This story was so unique! Jon is equal parts human and monster, which makes him such a great representation of the central point of this story. Chloe is sweet and understanding and loving. Their connection without any logical reason really encompasses how love tends to happen in real life I think. When you love someone, you just know you do. You can list a hundred thousand things you love about them, or who you are with them, but at the end of the day you can no more hold onto that love or separate yourself from it than you could grasp running water. It’s natural, it moves and it lives. Only caroline Kepnes could make Carrig into anyone even semi human after the beginning introduction to him, but she did. I love this story. It’s deeper than it seems. Pay attention. I took my time with it due to limited attention span lately because I wanted to be able to really ‘get it.’ HIGHLY recommend this book and this author. It deserves a place in your collection. This title does have v!olence, , but I’d rate it PG13 level. No smut here. Some cursing if I remember correctly, but there was so little if there was that In struggling to remember 100%. Triggers include emotional abandonment, mention of su!c!dal ideation, v!olence, gun v!olence, de@th, medical issues, cancer, special needs children. I am a pretty sensitive person as far as triggers and I made it through it without problems if that gives you an idea. Hope this is a series as well!
