Firstly, I want to thank Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group for this AMAZING Egalley!

I've read Caroline Kepnes previous books and immediately fell in love with her work. Providence is now added to my Kepnes pile and stored to revisit whenever I need to escape into the world of Jon and Chloe.

This book stands alone and very well so from You! We follow along this journey of 2 best friends who lives are changed with the kidnapping of Jon. Supernatural, thrilling, friendship and a need to find out the truth of what happened kept me turning each page with anticipation until the very end! I absolutely LOVED this book and was not disappointed.

Thank you to NetGalley for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

And, uh...... This one gon' be real honest.

1.75 stars. I AM SO DISAPPOINTED!!!!

You guys.
No spoilers here.
But.
You guys.

I was introduced to Caroline Kepnes with You, which was, if not a masterpiece, GREAT. I loved it! One of my favorite reads of 2017. So when this came up on NetGalley I was like "YAS LAWD PLS SIGN ME UP!"

But then.

No.

First of all, it is CONTEMPORARY with a capital CONTEMPORARY, which, if you've read my bio or most of my Contemporary reviews, you know IS NOT FOR ME. Also, don't be fooled by the lack of "Sci-Fi" or "Horror" genres attached to this one. It is trying REAL DAMN HARD to be sci-fi/horror.

Second of all, it's disjointed in a way that seems to be trying to mysteriously confusing but in the end is just kind of mysteriously annoying. There are major time hops.... and to have time hops IN ADDITION TO multiple POVs? I don't know about you, but my li'l ADD brain just can't accommodate that.

Third of all, and this is related to the "second of all," I just didn't fall in love with any of the characters. All of them are flawed, but not in endearing ways. In ways that made me depressed.

Given GR users' obsession with Contemporary fiction, I'm sure I'll end up being one of the only less-than-4-star-reviews, but I've gotta say, I didn't love it. And, after loving You (the book, not you, dear review reader.... though I do love you too *SMOOCH*) so much, it was extra sulk-making.

Read on my Kindle. Totally loved this one from Kepnes, but if you're expecting the action-packed thriller aspect that You and Hidden Bodies had you might be disappointed. This is more about the romance and the connection between the two protagonists. I do have to say I was a bit disappointed in the ending, and I wonder if Kepnes has something more up her sleeve in this world. While the story was "wrapped up", there were too many questions left unanswered for my liking. Overall enjoyable, I would recommend!

Great all the way to the less than climactic ending.
