I found this book interesting and enjoyable. I loved the story of Haythem and his journey from being a young boy and how he became an assassin and Templar and a father. I loved the fights and yet his journey of revenge and his investigations compelling. I also love the how the historical back ground played into the story too.
The only reason for me giving this book 4/5 and not 5/5 stars, is because the cover promises us that we will read about Connor, which obviously doesn't happen. Other then that, this book was WONDERFUL. I loved, loved, loved to read from the perspective of a templar, and enjoyed the story of Haytham so much! :)
I really enjoyed this book.
This follows Haytham Kenway as he trains with a tutor after his father is killed and sister is taken away.
I really enjoyed this story. It was fun and enjoyable. I liked seeing where this story was going to go.
I really enjoyed the characters. They were interesting and fun to read about. Haytham's journey in this book was interesting to read about and how he dealt with all that he did.
I enjoyed this book a lot and am excited for the next assassins creed story.

[2.5 stars] I love Assassin's Creed very much and I think Haytham is actually one of the best characters in the franchise. Evidently, this book had a lot to live up to. I don't really think it did.
The story line itself is good but obviously that's not where the author's contribution came in this case. The pace was a little off and the writing itself felt a bit fan-fiction-y and juvenile.
Most importantly though, I hated the characterization. The sassy and cynical side of Haytham-the lion's share, really-did not come through at all. I understand him not speaking like that in his head but even in dialogue he was way too.. polite. Even Edward's-my dad's- character treatment was incredibly unfair. I am unsure whether the author had to create his own Edward because Black Flag came out later (probably the case) or what but the Edward Kenway in this book is in no way the canon and it frankly pissed me off.
In the end, I enjoyed the familiar plot and cried in the end. I just know I would have adored this if it was written by someone else. (Breaks my heart because I was planning on reading the Ezio trilogy but I guess not).

This telling of Haytham's story from his perspective shows him in a new light as the morally complex man he was in the Assassin's Creed narrative, especially with regard to his complex relationship with his son Connor and his actions in England involving the Templar Order there. Reading Forsaken lets one understand Assassin's Creed III on a much deeper level but also shows one just how deeply tragic the story of the Kenway family is, from Edward to Haytham to Connor. The final chapter of the book has stayed with me. Read this book and you will see why. I recommend reading Forsaken after playing both Assassin's Creed III and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.
I really enjoyed this. I thought it brought a lot to the Haythem/Connor relationship. If you've played the game, definitely check this out. If you haven't, and you read this, then play the game or watch the cutscenes after, because it gives you a different perspective. The writing was pretty good. I kind of wish that some of the holes had been filled in a little better. The time skips are very large at times and there are a lot of them - at least two cover over a decade of time.
Overall, it was very enjoyable.
