Brim Over Boot

Emmy Sanders

4.28 AVERAGE

“Against all goddamn sense and reason, you made me fall brim over boot, Noah King. And now I don’t know which way is up unless it’s with you.”

Emmy Sanders hits every. fucking. time. I am convinced there isn’t a single book she could write that I wouldn’t absolutely devour.

Colton-goddamn-Darling and Noah-fucking-King are the absolute perfect example of enemies to lovers done right. The tension between these two was immaculate.
Colton and Noah are rival farriers in a small town who love nothing more than to get under the other one’s skin. Every moment between them felt like a “when are they just going to freaking kiss already?!” moment and when it happened, hallelujah was it superb. The chemistry between these two was scorching hot and I could not get enough (and neither could they apparently.)

I loved how their bi-awakenings were different but showed both sides - one struggling to understand and the other just kind of accepting it and rolling with the punches. It felt very real and authentic to the experiences of many.

Coming back to Darling, Montana felt like coming back home. I loved seeing snippets of Jackson and Ash (from book 1), along with Remi and Lawson and I absolutely cannot wait for Remi and Lawson to get their stories.

Colton Darling & Noah King. The only two ferriers in town, they’re natural enemies. One upping each other for years. And kinda get together by accident but then can’t see themselves out of it. It was a cute read but idk if I enjoyed it very much. I found Colton so immature for a man who’s almost 40. I also didn’t see Colton really getting to know Noah until the very end either which annoyed me bc I feel like Noah put a lot more effort into the relationship. Overall I didn’t vibe with their banter

I love this author, but I think I prefer other books in their catalog. I still enjoyed this story though

Colton and Noah are both so stubborn and petty it’s actually kind of impressive and honestly? Hilarious. The banter is top-tier, and the tension between them crackles from page one. You just know something happened in their past to cause all this animosity, but it takes nearly the whole book to find out what. When the reason finally gets revealed, it really helps everything click into place... I just wish we’d gotten it a bit earlier. I think it would’ve made me warm up to both of them faster.

That said, watching them navigate their complicated history and feelings (plus that delicious enemies-to-lovers tension) was really satisfying. Colton being nearly 40 and still acting like a brat sometimes made me want to shake him, but it was also kind of endearing in its own chaotic way.

This was my first book in the series (I skipped book one), and I had no trouble following along. That said, I’m tempted to go back for Jackson and Ash now. And I’m definitely ready for Remi’s book!

The miscommunication at the end was so ridiculous. Also two biawakening is one too many.

I knew this book would deliver because every Emmy Sanders novel I’ve read has showcased her deft hand with a love story, but this was even better than I imagined. It gave me everything I want from a cowboy romance, and I could see these men amongst plains and mountains and hear the crunch of dirt under boots as easily as if I stood in their world myself.

These characters are beautifully defined and addicting. I loved the initial collision of Noah’s smug self-assurance with Colt’s prickly aggression, and I loved watching them melt into one another even more. There’s so much heat and tenderness in their romance, and, like I’ve come to expect from this author, the journey is laugh-out-loud funny. The side characters are just as endearing, and even though I’ve started the series out of order, I can’t wait to go back and read Jackson and Ash’s book.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND this one!
