I havent read a cop/detective romance book in soo long and this was a great return to that trope. I love Piper’s character so much and how protective she was of her sister. It starts off a bit as an enemies to lovers. Very enjoyable read but the ending felt too rushed, I wish there was an indication of if Piper kept working for Hale.

Steamy but cheesy.

She’s the guardian of her teen sister and works as a waitress in a strip club to make ends meet. Of course she would never take her clothes off for money, because strippers are bad, I guess?!? He’s a sheriff. The story is ok. The writing is predictable (“shaking like a leaf”).

If you’re in the mood for a quickie, this might work.

My heart broke for Piper (FMC). She’s been through so much at such a young age. I feel like the end was a little rushed, but it maybe because i read this as a stand-alone out of order.

I loved Piper instantly when we met her in Fury on Fire! Hale, damn, he was such a sanctimonious prick. Their meet-cute was in Fury on Fire and it was definitely an explosive one and certainly not instant love. Instant, reluctant lust? YES.

Piper is the "bad girl" from the bad part of town and Hale is the golden boy Sherrif, what could they have in common? Their need to protect for one. Piper is such an admirable woman! She's raising her sister Malia the best that she can and taking the towns crap and letting it roll off her back is hard but she does it so she can visit her older brother Cruz in prison.

Hale, sigh, once he realized Piper's real situation, he manned up and became the hero I know he could be.

BUT I LOVED PIPER!! She made the book :) Thanks Sophie for giving us a strong, kick-ass heroine!

Daughter of an infamous small-town family is struggling to make ends meet, and her situation isn't helped by the hunky but meddlesome town sheriff.

I'm a sucker for a heroine who is drowning in problems but misunderstood by those around her. Piper works hard to support her younger sister and stay out of trouble, but she starts having run-ins with Hale, the local sheriff, and their enemies to lovers, slow burn romance takes off from there. There's a particularly delicious scene where Piper, desperate for money, agrees to start doing private dances at the strip club where she's been a long-time waitress, and guess who ends up being her first customer? ;)

I think the story would've benefited from more hints about Piper's incident in high school to increase the suspense and play up her doomed attraction to Hale. I also didn't like how near the end of the story Hale
Spoilergot angry when she confessed, after demanding she not do it. Yeah, I get she broke a promise to him, but it was clear he prioritized her being with him more than her mental health, getting this terrible secret off her chest and having a clean conscience.

Something unusual about the audiobook is that while the story is told in dual POV, it's performed entirely by a male narrator (Christian Fox). He did a wonderful job, especially with growly Hale. This book was number 4 in a series but worked fine as a standalone. I might go back and read a few more books in the series and would also read more books by this author.

We have Piper the feisty waitress and Hale the sheriff in this one. Piper has been her baby sisters guardian since she was 18 years old, working at the only strip joint in town because it's the only place that would hire her because of her families bad reputation, mom died while drunk driving, dad died in prison, brother currently in prison not to mention her extended family.
Hale took over being the sheriff after his dad retired, his meetings with Piper never go exactly well, their first meeting involved him calling her a bimbo and her pouring water in his lap. But when Piper is basically forced into doing lap dances, Hale is her first and sparks are everywhere!!!
These books always have a "suspense" aspect but it's always kind of an after thought that just kinda pushes the story forward a bit, very plot convenience-y rather than actual story, but they are still fun reads in spite of that fact.

Beautiful Lawman
5 Stars

In the small town of Sweet Hills, Texas, everyone is familiar with the notorious Walsh family. But Piper Walsh has worked hard to make a good life for herself and her younger sister. Unfortunately, keeping her head down doesn't work with Hale Winters, the arrogant and sexy sheriff who only sees her as trouble with a capital T. Despite their mutual vows to steer, Piper and Hale clash at every turn and animosity soon turns to an intense attraction they cannot ignore. Can a girl from the wrong side of the tracks have a future with the town's golden boy?

Series note: Piper and Hale first meet in book #3, and characters from book #1 and #2 are mentioned and appear. That said, all necessary information is provided and the plot is unconnected.

North and Faith's book was obviously going to be a tough act to follow, yet Jordan manages to outdo herself with Piper and Hale.

The intensity of Piper and Hale's antagonistic, opposites-attract romance is off-the-charts as they can't be in the same room together without clashing verbally and physically. There are times when Hale's overbearing dominance skirts the line, but he manages to avoid crossing it through his evident love for Piper, and hers for him.

Piper is an incredible heroine with amazing strength and resilience and her heartbreaking secret only enhances her appeal. The fact that Hale doesn't even blink at the revelation, despite his apparent black-and-white view of the world, is a testament to his love for Piper.

All in all, another amazing addition to the series, and I am sad it will be coming to an end with Cruz Walsh's book next.

Okay, I have a lot of thoughts about this book. But, let me start with the positives. The writing was good — adequate, nothing amazing. I think I prefer the author’s historical romances but that’s just a preference. The sex scenes were also good — this is not an erotica so it would be unfair to expect blazing fireworks after every page.

However, this plot was nonsensical. There were so many red flags in this relationship that I found it hard for me to root for the couple. First of all, the hero was the heroine’s boss and that’s an abuse of power if there ever was one. At some point he uses his job to get the heroine’s number and that’s just creepy, dude.

There is a subplot involving the heroine’s brother, surely used to set up the next book, that was almost an afterthought. That word count could’ve been used to explain why the hero fell in love with the heroine for reasons that are not sexual.

In this book, it seems as if most of the interactions between the hero and heroine were of a sexual nature — there weren’t enough scenes setting up an intimate connection between the main characters that was not rooted in lust. I don’t know man, by the end of this book I was not convinced that these two should’ve ended up together. I’m worried about the nature of their relationship if the heroine ever becomes truly independent and doesn’t necessarily need the hero.
