justice for boxer! having the pigs be the assholes is so funny and fitting but god did it really get to me that they really fucked the other animals over like brainwashed them into a false illusion of freedom, i knew they were gonna start walking on two legs the animals are better then me i would’ve set the entire farmhouse on fire during that ending dinner scene. still im sad about boxer he was the best JUSTICE FOR BOXER WTHHH

i remember reading this in year 8 and i fell asleep majority of the lessons...

It’s clumsy storytelling but a book like this should exist in this world. It’s a cathartic read in our late stage capitalist society.

If everyone willingly read and understood this book, I like to think we’d see a revolution or at least finally gain class consciousness.

For me, the most important takeaway from this book was to ask myself:

Which animal are you?

Criticisms: Animal Farm is a very simplified idea of a society. And it doesn’t offer a path forward to create an equitable society - not that it has to.

I also question the motivation behind the book. Because if it was just to point out the societal problem in a generic sense, I think it did that fine.

But if it was to get this message across to the sheep and horses in our society I’m sorry king but I don’t think this will cut it. It’s not attention grabbing or short and punchy enough. Imo only a Clover at best will appreciate this book. And everyone more educated than clover already gets this I think.

That said, I think it’s great the book exists. But I think for it to be a 5 we have to push it a step further.

Growing up in the American Public School System, it is generally accepted that in some elementary grade level students are required to read Animal Farm. At a young age, a tragic tale about a farm run by animals is easy to follow. Yet perhaps, the interpretation is often lost.

Now, living in times when government control has reached new heights, books like Animal Farm can serve as a cautionary tale of a system run amok. Furthermore, in the faults of our current system, many seek out other political ideologies as a golden solution. Again—Animal Farm, and the deep concepts explored in this book can be applied again.

Animal Farm is a book about power and hope. The latter is the fuel that ostensibly keeps power running, and the greedy able to feed from their troughs. Orwell, again, in his style of writing can eloquently juxtapose animals with societal level power dynamics. It is a sad tale, that rings true to this day. The ending scene is incredibly written, and will be something I remember for a long time.

I liked the main message of the story and my favorite character was Boxer.

I never had to read this in high school like so many others, but I sat down to read it this morning and finished within a few hours. I thoroughly enjoyed it and see why it’s lived on as a classic, and it’s still just as relevant today as it was when written
