I didn't quite enjoy this as much Rath's other (linked) historical why choose series. Still has some very enjoyable things: likeable characters, MMF, a plausible happily ever after. I don't really like religious guilt and there is a fair bit of that in here, but it did stay just on the right side of okay for me.

ARC Review

I loved this book so much I had to stay up all night to finish it. It was great to get back to a familiar place with familiar characters but getting to know Madeline and Charles and Warren, and their chemistry with each other was so lovely….and Very Hot.

Madeline may seem meek but she knows what kind of person she is and what she wants from life. Circumstances lead to some hurt and frustration but I love that she takes charge to get what she wants and deserves. Charles and Warren have intriguing backstories that pull you along and getting into their heads was sometimes heartbreaking but these men love so hard. The dynamic between these three was perfection.

A lot of the time it’s hard for me to get invested in interconnected stand-alone books, I usually love the OG couple too much to get invested in the other characters. But this one…I absolutely love Rosalie and her guys but I simply can’t pick which I prefer. Both stories truly stand on their own and it’s impossible to not fall for these characters.

I really loved Madeline, Charles, and Warren’s story. Definitely my favorite book in this Second Sons series!

Madeline has just found out that she has only weeks to marry in order to inherit the fortune left to her by her late aunt. So she runs off to Alcott Hall, the home of her friend Rosalie, hoping to find a man willing to make a marriage of convenience, but ends up finding two who also share a torrid and painful history.

I really loved this story. The sexy tension between Charles and Warren. Madeline embracing what she truly wants out of life. (Plus her willingness to explore the “unknown”.) The bits of the story dealing with Rosalie and her men. I really loved coming back to this world, and well, Warren:

“𝙏𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩, 𝙮𝙤𝙪’𝙡𝙡 𝙜𝙤 𝙨𝙞𝙩 𝙖𝙩 𝙖 𝙙𝙪𝙠𝙚’𝙨 𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪’𝙡𝙡 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝙢𝙮 𝙝𝙤𝙩 𝙨𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 🍑,” 𝙒𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙙, 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙝 𝙝𝙤𝙩 𝙞𝙣 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙖𝙨 𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙖 𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙜𝙚 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙩 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙚. “𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙞𝙩, 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙡𝙚𝙨. Alcott Hall

This book was my favorite of the Second Sons. If you enjoy Regency Romance, I'd definitely recommend this series. I really enjoyed Madeline and the innocence she had when it came to learning new things but never shying away from them like most would. I loved her openness. She's a great character.

Another super enjoyable why choose from Emily. In the past, this has not been my favorite genre, but Emily has a way of writing characters that makes these scenarios believable and HOT! I seriously hope she writes more in the is world, because I love it, and will continue to gobble up every thing she put out.
