This book proved to be a genuinely enjoyable read,  with a delightful blend of coziness and witchy charm. The endearing characters, particularly the children with their distinct personalities, consistently made me smile and gave me 'aww' moments. The well-managed pacing contributed to a pleasant and light-hearted reading experience.

The 'twist', while not particularly exciting compared to other works, presented a challenge that needed to be faced without turning the book into something it wasnt. Additionally, certain highlighted quotes throughout resonated with me on an incredible level.

However, a drawback caused me to deduct a star, due to unexpected explicit language and scenes. The abrupt shift from a story centered on young witches and their nanny to explicit content was, unfortunately, uncomfortable.

This is the perfect book to read during fall OR wintertime, because it is witchy & includes celebrating the winter solstice. It delivers wonderfully with its promise of cozy fantasy vibes. The narrator of the audio has a British accent, which I appreciate for it being set in England. I suspected how parts of the story would work out with the mixed-up found family, but I didn't guess the little twist at the end that let everything come full circle. The pacing was fine, and I liked the story and its characters. The comforting feeling of a book wrapping me in a blanket, though, was fun but didn't constantly urge me to pick it up to progress the narrative. I will check out the author's upcoming witchy book in the hopes of similar vibes.

This was as warm and lovely as I had anticipated from all the reviews I had previously read. I am so happy to have access to all these cozy stories and be able to indulge the cold winter months that I am spending still healing from a longer illness with these types of narratives. This was is intricately crafted, with each character being lovely in their own way. And honestly, I am so very much here for a grumpy-sunshine romance arc! Especially if it happens in a found family setting.

Interesting world creation, relatable main character, fun premise/plot... And then it fell flat. Loved the first half, and then it seemed to run away from itself.

Biggest complaints (summary of my own, as well as collective thoughts from our book club):
  • Lots of F words. Didn't bother me much, but it was a source of complaint for others in my book club. With the main character being a 30 something year old woman in modern England, it seemed to make sense contextually, but could be offensive for some.
  • The kids aren't written well - their vocabulary choices, phrasing, and romantic teasing weren't realistic for even the most mature of children
  • There's a pretty descriptive sex scene that was pretty uncomfortable for most of our book club members, albeit a pretty short scene. I think the bigger complaint with the sex scene was that it didn't seem to add anything to the book, nor did the timing make sense. Instead, it seemed to serve a "so now everything will be happy ever after" purpose. The tone also felt inconsistent with the rest of the book, almost as if the author has a ghost writer or chat gpt step in lol.
  • The ending felt rushed and abrupt, and one-dimensional. There was lots of potential based on the world building and character development, but it fell flat.
