I loved Stanley Tucci’s first memoir, Taste, so I was really excited to find out he had written another one. What I Ate in One Year takes the reader through a year of meals with Stanley Tucci. He organizes the book by day (not every day) and at the very least, describes what he ate that day. Spoiler alert: he ate A LOT of pasta. He also throws in some recipes for some of his favourite dishes.

But more than that, along with the food, we get a glimpse into a year in Stanley Tucci’s life. We hear about the events he went to (including meeting the new King Charles), the trips he took, some of the roles he worked on, his family activities, medical appointments and more. And in between all of that, we get Stanley Tucci’s views on an incredible list of topics (the “and related thoughts” part of the title), including but not limited to: aging, death, travel, Halloween, Christmas, cooking (obviously), Hollywood, children, donating, fans, and so many other things. He wrote this during the SAG strike in 2023, so he wasn’t working on too many film projects that year which presumably left time for many other things, including writing this book day-by-day.

Written with intelligent wit and a dry sense of humour, I highly recommend listening to the audiobook to hear Stanley Tucci voice his thoughts and opinions. I promise at certain points you will laugh out loud.

For someone who hates cooking, I surely adore Stanley Tucci.
