This is starting to get really good. I’m starting to really like the characters and see their development, and it’s only the 2nd volume. I like how the characters went from middle school in vol.1 to high school in vol.2. I can’t wait to see how much they develop as the series goes on.

Bakuman is a manga about two ambitious high school students who want to become manga artists. This story was created by two authors who know the business inside and out: the same team who created the wildly successful series Death Note. In Bakuman, Moritaka Mashiro and Akito Takagi team up with the goal of creating a story popular enough to be serialized in Shonen Jump and adapted into an anime before they turn 18. The reason for this deadline is a somewhat silly romantic promise Moritaka has made to the girl he loves, who also has a dream- to become a popular voice actress. Teen romance aside, this is a really smart series with a lot of actual, solid information about the Japanese manga industry.
That was a really good sequel. I need Volume 3 ASAP!
This was also part of my Booktubeathon reads. This completes the book with read and a book with pictures. 1 down. 8 more to go.

I didn't think that I would get into a story with out battles or more " mainstream" manga but I am really rutting for the characters and I can't wait to see what happens next!!
I can't believe I'm only on volume 2 when I feel like I've been with these characters for 10+ volumes. It's really interesting learning more about how manga is made and marketed. The boys have made so much progress already and I really like and trust their editor so far. I like that he doesn't just shit on them in the name of their growth, but encourages what they do right and well, while pointing out where they need to improve.
I keep forgetting that the kids are literally in middle school. Well now they are officially high school students but wow they are so young. Seeing Saiko and Akuzi email was funny. They are both so utterly ridiculous in their determination to not talk until they are both successful in their respective fields, but its also sweet seeing how much they are infatuated with each other.
I'm curious how the boys' rivalry with that prodigy is going to go. Also I want to know who was the person to get second place for the reader thingy...
I was excited at the idea of the boys making a cult manga that was niche, but Saiko's decision to go into mainstream manga changes that. I wonder how that will go and if they are going to still have faith in the editor and vice versa. I really how that they stick with that editor because I think he truly has their best interests at heart, even with saying that they shouldn't get a series until they are done with high school. I know Saiko wants to rush so that he can be with Azuki sooner but I don't know....
I'm looking forward to the next volume though and seeing the progress that the boys will make. I really am rooting for them.

The plot sort of bored me a little in this one and the drawings made everyone, especially the two main characters awfully animalistic to the point it took a second to realise yes they are still human here and its not one huge metaphor or something. Plus the editor at Jump (sorry I can't remember anyone's names) only has one facial expression, it does not change once through the entire book. All other manga I've read I will get through in a few hours but this one took days as I kept putting it down because it just really didn't appeal to me.
