After she loses both of her parents to the forest, her life changes. The sisterhood takes her in but they rule with a heavy hand. A girl comes to the village from the path through the forest an Mary's world changes for ever and she decides that finding the ocean is the most important thing.

it was like reading 28 days later/the village....depressing. I didn't like it, but I was able to finish it so it wasn't all that bad.

Had a decent premise and a cool setting but the writing and characters were completely uncompelling. Dotted with a few good bits of action but overall just a bit dull.

This was my first foray into zombie fiction, so I can't say anything about that aspect. However, I enjoyed the setting, atmosphere, and world-building. It makes me want to explore more of the genre. The love triangle didn't seem very necessary, though. I didn't hate it, but there were times that it seemed to be a little too much.

I wasn't going to read this....zombies are not my thing. But I was surprised....I read it in two days. It is an easy read, but it is also pretty interesting. I can't wait to read the next one

I have never read or watched anything dealing with infections so far into the future. Not that this is futuristic. I just usually get into things that start with the beginning of the apocalypse, but this starts quite a while after the origin. From what I know at this point.

The atmosphere/vibe was alright. The writing style displayed average talent. Overall, I would say this was unique and creative as a story. But, I didn't really care for the characters much. They seemed underdeveloped and unexplained for the most part. I caught myself thinking "there is no way that this character would do this." So the characters didn't interest me. The action was alright, albeit a long time coming.

I'm going to continue with the next book with hopes that it will get better (which is what I have been told).
