I ultimately decided that I did not like this book because of how selfish and irrational the main character is. The premise was promising, a town completely surrounded by fences, and outside of those fences are zombie infested woods. The town is run by a Matriarchy of nuns who are the only ones who know the truth. But all that potential was ultimately not fulfilled and the world ended up being a backdrop for SURPRISE a love triangle… or really more like a love square. I started reading the second book, The Dead-Tossed Waves, but after less than a chapter I decided not to bother - this is possibly also the result of having just finished The Selection series - maybe my quota for melodramatic love triangle/square novels was already full.

Its a good YA story. Im interested in reading the other 2 books in the series

I liked this book a lot. It is a young woman's coming-of-age story set generations after the zombie apocalypse. Unlike World War Z or the Zombie Survival Guide, the style of this book is lyrical and sad, rather than tongue-in-cheek.
I liked that the protagonist wasn't a helpless damsel-in-distress, but she wasn't a superpowered Amazon woman either.
Although this book contains a romantic subplot, the heroine's entire existence isn't focused around the man she's in love with. She has other hopes and dreams aside from just "getting the guy."

A creepy and fast-pace zombie book, with some romance and mystery thrown in. Of course, the mystery is totally, totally not solved in this book. So that's a bit frustrating. But hopefully their will be more books! So I can find out more! Because I really want to.

It's fine.
The first few chapters were somehow engaging to some degree.

But at the end of the book, like, why foresake the other characters and just go on with the main characters. I know she's the main character but.. but no proper care was given to sides. They just somehow exist for the main character to narrate for them. She's in her own world while the rest is just trying to survive. To find a new home but this ... Main character-What's her name again- wanted to go to the ocean. She forsake (forsake is such a strong word for this one)  her love, family and friends for the ocean. Why?

I hope Harry, Cass and Jacob found a safe place but they're probably dead as well. Who knows.

And I don't understand the romance between Travis and Mary (Mary! That's her name - the main character). Was there even a romance?

Mary doesn't even care. I think. That's the gist I'm getting from her.

Travis, honestly, I don't fully understand him to talk about him. He's Mary's love interest.

Cass, Mary's best friend.

Harry, seem a nice guy. If only he's not that overly obsessed with Mary. He would have been fine. He's the only guy I read in the entire book that is somehow likeable, barely.

Jed, the brother. That's all I could think of.

Jacob, the little kid whom Harry saved before the Unconsecrated.

Didn’t finish.

This book has a case of pathetic protagonist. It was all very underdeveloped in the way early 2000s dystopian YA novels were, and the genderedness of how the men constantly took care of the women (who in turn prepared meals lol) was not doing it for me.
