This book has several useful nuggets of information about managing emotions, self-care, and so on. It also helped explain some of my self-criticism / self-indulgence cycles, and described some of how I felt disconnected and continue to avoid dependence on anyone.

That being said, it repeated the same ideas a lot (not what is there, but what is not there - this is an example used a lot). The author also mentions relationships as friendships or marriage,as though there is nothing in between, which I found quite alienating.

Overall, a decent read for ideas, a bit repetitive, a bit condescending, and a bit alienating.

I skim read this for the most useful and relevant information. I do believe emotional neglect is real and formative but needs more study. Some of what wenn describes here is emotional abuse. Most interesting to me is the category of well meaning but neglected themselves parents but that is given the least detailed attention.

The joggest aha was about my lack of self discipline and the hope that o can solve that not by self criticism but by better self care.

Catch me making it rain copies of this book at the family reunion.

Understanding childhood emotional neglect is so important for those who are deeply hurting and don’t know why. The information in this book is easily understandable and applicable, and I only hope it inspires more research and published literature on this topic.

Coining the term emotional neglect, Jonice Webb explains how it can impact us in later life and practical advice on how to heal from it. The lamguage is clear and easy to read with plenty of examples.

A lot of this rang true for me and I'm interested in giving the exercises a go. I wish there was an app or an easier way to complete the worksheets though.

I will admit that I didn’t finish it, mainly bc I didn’t really want to go through all the emotional healing exercises but I did like the first half with all the info on emotional neglect

One of the rare books on the market for this subject. Great book with lots of examples and explanations. Also a great exercise you can do to make a change. Seriously, if there is one book I recommend everyone to read that has problems with this, it's this one!

This book was whooping my ass. Some relatively heavy content so had to put it down.
