Aug 2019: I finally fucking finished it. There were patches of interesting pages, but that was rough getting to the end, and many aspects of the ending annoyed me. Well, I'm glad I don't have to wonder anymore.

Aug 2018: Trying this again. I'm enjoying it more this time, possibly because I have more brainpower for slow stories, and I'm reading it a few pages at a time on my commute.

April 2015: I can't do it. Maybe I'll come back to it one day. Maybe. I made it about 100 pages in, and I am just way too bored and would rather read something else. I really loved Seraphina.

I'm fascinated by the conclusion of the line story almost more than anything else. It was unusual in a chaste young adult book.

I'm also loving the way the Saints are tied into everything. Definitely worth the read and a good ending to the story.

A satisfying conclusion. Such a beautiful, terrifying, weird world Hartman has created here. These are a great couple of books to suggest to people who want something a little different about dragons.

Fantastic conclusion to this awesome series.

I must warn you, it's a bit slow, especially the first 200 pages drag a little because there is so much world building. Don't get me wrong, the world building in these novels is excellent but it's also a lot of information that does not drive the plot forward. Seraphina's search for the other ityasaari just takes her from one place to another where she find's another half-dragon and then moves on to the next place. It works too smoothly and while it's nice getting to know all the different countries of the South Lands and their specific customs I wanted the story to move forward. Until
SpoilerJannoula appears. That woman gave me shivers. Her back story is so interesting and ties everything together so well in the end.
. I did like getting to know all the new half-dragons but there were a lot of them. It was easy to tell them apart but I think the story could've been compressed by having fewer characters. And I missed Lars, he was only in a handful of scenes.

The middle part and the ending were great. I loved when they visited
SpoilerLab 4 and we got to spend some time with the quigs, they're hilarious.
Something else I immensely enjoyed was how the handled the whole Seraphina-Kiggs-Glisselda situation. First of all I was really surprised to learn
Spoilerthat Selda liked Phina like that but it made so much sense
and secondly it was great how unconventionally the problem was solved
SpoilerKiggs and Selda marrying "for show"
.
In the end everything just made sense, the puzzle pieces clicked together and no loose ends were left.

Well worth the year long wait.

Read a longer review on my blog!

"Nothing was just one thing; there were worlds within worlds. Those of us who trod the line between were blessed and burdened with both."

This was such a satisfying ending to this amazing duology. I felt so many emotions while reading this, it's so hard to put them into words!

I love this world, it is so different and imaginative. You can tell the author took her time to full imagine the different countries and cultures that they have, it's all just so breathtaking.

I will dearly miss Seraphina, Abdo, Orma, Selda, Lucien, and all the ityasaari and saar. They were such are wonderful characters to have followed on this amazing adventure.

This book was so stressful in the best of ways. I felt so many emotions and just oh my gosh I can't form words. ;-;
