I loved this! I've never read anything like this, and it is so refreshing to get a book from a child's perspective on Autism. The Tally's Autism Facts sections were a bit hit or miss- while informative, are also a bit info-dump-y. This book is so incredibly well written, and shows the reader so much of the autistic experience in a way I haven't ever seen before- honestly should be mandatory reading for teachers (and possibly some kids)

Summer of 2021 reading choice for my school. This one was hard on my head. I was so anxious for Tally the entire time. I just wished she understood what others around her wanted for and from her - if only she’d be able to see more of the bigger picture. I listened to this one, and Tally sounded so selfish and bratty and seemed as if she couldn’t let anyone else “get away with” making mistakes even though she herself made plenty. Lots of it was typical of middle school, but it had me wondering if that’s how families actually act with “Tallys” at home. They seemed to give in to her needs more than I would think. I’ll never really know, so this book was good for me to see that perspective. I would’ve loved to know what her therapist told the family that would help everyone communicate better. Overall, it’s about how tons of people (not just Tally) change themselves just to fit in.
