Part One was a five-star read. The writing, the story, the characters all drew me in. My heart broke for Lewis and Wren as they navigated Lewis’s change together. (Although the reference to Lewis’s nose “bone” becoming cartilage really distracted me. Human noses are cartilage!)
Part Two provided helpful context about Wren’s and Angela’s contexts. It didn’t have quite the same draw as Part One: it felt a bit too long and a bit too filler-y at times.

As a guardian of a Golden Retriever, I could’ve lived without the detailed description of Angela eating one. That was really rough for me: did the breed really need to be detailed?jennshappyplace's review against another edition

What a unique book! It took me awhile to get into the book. I actually switched from the physical book to the audio version. That helped me. I soon was all in and engaged in the story of Lewis and Wren and him becoming a shark and what that would mean to them. Then suddenly it became a whole different book and I was immediately in for that! The 2nd half of the book ended up being my favorite and certain moments brought me to tears. What an amazing imagination Emily Habeck has! This story will stick with me.

What a bizarrely sweet book! I devoured this! I can’t wait for this author to write more!

This book is bizarre and original as it uses such a strange premise to tackle love, loss, meaning, grief and so many more themes. It was written poetically and intentionally and I think it was a fantastic debut.
