I will admit Prue is not one of my favorite Quick heroines - she got a little too annoying at times and also was a bit too naive for her own good (something she and most of the other characters in the book comment on a lot which also may be why it got old by the end) but I do love a Quick plot line so that saved this one in the end for me. I know this is one of her earlier novels so she wasn't quite set on her usual cast of characters yet (I kept waiting for the female villain to somehow appear but apparently that was a trademark she settled on later) but still a fun read with lots of good banter to enjoy.

This book was fine but the two MCs didn’t really get as much swoon/page time to grow as I would prefer. The main story revolved around the mystery and the FMC (Prudence) being quirky. The mystery setting was traumatic (that’s where that CW comes from), not super graphic just VERY intense considering the tone of the rest of the book. For Quick this one didn’t have that light zaniness at the same volume as the others from her I have read.

The mystery was absolutely perfect… chef’s kiss.
The romance between Prue and Sebastian was also great; it was fun and charming and their chemistry was off the charts. I liked Prue’s well meaning attempts to help Sebastian mend his relationship with his relatives in general but her insistence on giving Mrs. Fleetwood so much undeserved grace got on my nerves.

MMC is a cold and dangerous man, but he is covering up how he has been hurt. He has a hobby of investigating crimes. FMC is dowdy and practical. She is fascinated by “spectral phenomena” (ghosts). They are pretty much the caricatures that they sound like.

Dangerous was an enjoyable read and I loved the plot, even though it had many characteristics of the older romances, which I’m not always the biggest fan of. I loved all the suspense and the atmosphere of the book – Quick paints a pretty spooky picture with all the descriptions of the fog and the places characters go to investigate, as well as with Sebastian’s thoughts about pre-dawn time and how it affects him. There is also a lot of subtle humour, which I love and it adds nicely to the more serious parts. Both characters have very unique personalities and they work well together, so it was logical they fell for each other so quickly. Overall, this is everything I love about Amanda Quick--sharp wit, an intriguing mystery, and an electric chemistry between the main characters.

Prue the ghost hunter is a great heroine. I do enjoy how Amanda Quick's heroines never obey anyone but themselves.
