Hot damn.
A dark, dystopian, gory sci fi that feels like the best and worst kind of hallucinogenic trip. Wonderfully gruesome imagery that bends the imagination around the kinds of creatures you hope aren’t lurking beneath the ocean.
A story that reflects on what it means to be.

Audiobook:
I don't even know how to explain this story. It is a fantasy, futuristic. It is a love-ish story but not like you'd expect. It is dystopian, dark and deadly. It is a physiological horror. It is a mind game. It was a hallucinogenic trip . I don't know if I liked it, I wanted to quit it but couldn't stop myself from listening. It was crazy and yet it all fit. Brilliantly weird.
Note: I heard "Borne" so many times I almost lost my mind.

This book means a lot to me.
I spend a lot of time thinking about three things:
1: There are many kinds of people, from all manner of species.
2: The dying world is a living world.
3: There is no god and the rats will inherit the earth.
Most literature doesn't have a lot to say about the thoughts that take up most of my brain. But it's all VanderMeer wants to talk about. I'm so grateful this weirdo exists and he keeps spinning out stories.
