It was falling on every part of the dark central plain, on the treeless hills, falling softly upon the Bog of Allen and, farther westward, softly falling into the dark mutinous Shannon waves. It was falling, too, upon every part of the lonely churchyard on the hill where Michael Furey lay buried. It lay thickly drifted on the crooked crosses and headstones, on the spears of the little gate, on the barren thorns. His soul swooned slowly as he heard the snow falling faintly through the universe and faintly falling, like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead."

A re-read. The Dead is included in Joyce's [b:Dubliners|11012|Dubliners|James Joyce|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1334138184l/11012._SX50_.jpg|260248], which as of right now, is the only book of Joyce I have read. The story takes place during the holidays. It's snowing, but the annual dinner party is warm and hospitable.

I've really enjoyed the character development here. The characters were really well achieved, I thought them funny at times, and even lovable! I wish I could meet the aunties.

It is also beautifully written, with an excellent flow to the prose.

ap lit strikes back :(( I thought my least favorite part of that class was the poems, but the short stories are worse. i liked the ending of this story, but the beginning and middle were boring!
