A story about love, a magical town and meddling fairy godmothers. It sounded promising, but it didn’t quite deliver. The story could have wrapped much sooner. And especially the chapters from Tomas POV felt repetitive. All in all it isn’t bad, but it’s not amazing either. It is just ok.

I got this arc in exchange for an honest review.

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

With the holidays floating around me, I was in the mood for some good romcoms. So, I decided to jump into It Happened One Midnight. Now I absolutely love Saranna's Fairy Godmothers, Inc Series. So, it's pretty safe to assume that I would fall magically in love with this book and the characters within it as well.

In this, you will meet Juniper and Tomas. She is a romance author, living my dream, but she's currently holding out for the love of her life. As to who that actually is? Well, she has no idea but she's a very optimistic person. While that's happening, Tomas is like the Grinch who divorced love. If you guessed he's a divorce attorney - you'd be correct. He's also not the biggest fan of love. So, maybe he's like the Grinch and Squidward being combined into one person.

These two are also best friends and it was quite easy to want them together. Or maybe I was just really stubborn and, in the mood, to do so. It's a problem most people would be okay with. So, when things started to take off, I couldn't help but be really happy for everyone involved. Plus, the fairy godmothers were hilarious and definitely made this book way more enjoyable.

In the end, I devoured the heck out of this. I can't wait for the next book that she writes. Especially if it's another fairy tale kind of romance.

The whole set up for the book was bizarre. The mothers forcing them to kiss was so weird and gross. The reason for the fake engagement made no sense to me. The godmothers basically said "pretend to be engaged or we'll set you up with someone", and the protagonists thought it was their own idea or something? I dunno. The bosses forcing him to be married to get a promotion was also very weird and gross.

I just...really hated the fairy godmothers. The humor didn't hit at all for me. I skimmed their scenes.

I love dialogue and banter, but this book was so insanely dialogue heavy that it felt like reading a script sometimes. And again, the banter just wasn't doing it for me. It was a bit much.

Also, maybe I just don't like the friends to lovers trope. Sometimes I don't mind it, but mostly, it just gets exhausting. Like...you love each other and love banging each other and have basically been dating for years already? Great, but now we have to somehow to drag this out into an entire book?

I love most of the tropes in it, and I'm totally willing to accept some silliness or convenient magics to make these tropes happen, but this one was just too much for me.

And I don't like how everyone was wayyyyyyyyyyy too involved in each other's romantic and sexual lives. Privacy does not even begin to exist in this world. Ew.

Another fantastic Fairy Godmothers Inc. tale!

"Juniper was absolutely convinced the hijinks were about to ensue."
This sets the tone for the whole book. Many a hijinks ensue! The Godmothers are at the top of their meddling game with this one.

I literally fell in love with the relationship between Tomas and Juniper from the first chapter. Watching them waver at times and ultimately blossom was complete perfection. This book is a deliciously slow-burn, friends-to-lovers rom-com! The character arcs are so enjoyable and had me laughing out loud at times. The world building isn't as present in this book as the others, but if you've read the whole series, you already know what Ever After feels like so I didn't find that to be an issue for me.

After Men Are Frogs, I wasn't sure the books could get any better, but I was pleasantly proven wrong. The Godmothers are just as silly as ever and all up in Juniper's business, meddling as per usual. I mean, they really did a number on poor Juniper and Tomas with that one bed trope ;)

If you haven't read any of the Fairy Godmothers Inc books, I so recommend you check them out...and if you have, definitely read It Happened One Midnight!

Huge thank you to Kensington Books for the ARC to read, enjoy, and review!

This was such a cute and light read that I really enjoyed it overall. I like that it could be a standalone novel, but that I could also continue following Juniper and Tomas in the next book(s) that will come out in the future.

When I started listening to this I didn't realize it was the third in a series. It was no trouble to read out of order, although I could tell there might be some back stories of side characters I had missed out on.

The concept is a fun one: quirky modern day fairy-godmothers (really, fairy match-makers!) that live to inspire (coerce?) love in others.

Content awareness: some f-swears and sexy time.
