It took me a good 30 pages to feel invested in this story but once I was hooked, boy -was I hooked! Wonderful layers of humor, social commentary, Greek mythology references, and feel good romance to boot.

A delightful read for anyone who enjoys period dramas.

Didn't feel it was moving anywhere and I had to move on.

an enjoyable, clever little book. quite feminist for its day, really, this idea that a woman should reject the idea that her goal in life is to find a suitable husband who will guide her (while still embracing the idea of love) and expect that the man she loves should respect her mind and her opinions. I found it a bit slow at first, but once the characters started engaging in earnest dialogue I really got into it, and I enjoyed how the main characters grew (even the horrible Cecil in his own way...wonder what became of him).

Beautiful writing but questionable execution of the main themes when looked through from the lens of 2025? Not sure.
