No More Terrible Dates: A romantic comedy of love, friendship . . . and tea by Kate O'Keeffe

I really liked that the book in based here in New Zealand but I didn't really connect that much with Darcy or Alex and I would have also thought Darcy would know a lot more about what Alex has been up to if only for the connection via his cousin. There were some good laughs as well as cringe worthy moments that make you want to stick with this to see how it all pans out. I think I will go back and read other in the series as I do want to get to know the characters more and it may just be these books are best read together rather than as a stand alone?

I just didn't really enjoy this one. Darcy is a really sweet character but I didn't believe her romance with Alex and he was just a bit boring. Also, the terrible thing he's done to her in high school is played up to be So So Bad and totally a valid reason for hating him for a decade but I think it was all blown out of proportion. Alex has some past relationship drama but I couldn't care about that either.

This one was definitely more emotional than the first one. There were a few things I didn't really like about Alex but I'm glad it still worked out in the end.

Darcy has made a pact with her friends to vet her dates since her choices have been pretty bad. This device was used a lot in the first book for some pretty funny scenes, but the author only uses it sparingly here. The real romance is between Darcy and her high school nemesis Alex, now returned as the local barista and photographer. It's a pretty typical enemies to lovers story with a nice setting and characters - until the ending.
Not going to give it away but I hated the ending. It turned an okay book into a depressing mess where I have no regard for either the wimpy heroine or the heavy-handed hero. Just cringy!

The only thing that I didn't like here was the fact that I couldn't feel the relationship between Alex and Darcy. I could feel it from Darcy's side but Alex? Not so much. Especially at the end. And I was left thinking there should've been more to it which there, frankly, wasn't. Still, a pleasurable read!
