same ideas that i have read in conversations on love by natasha lunn, and i think natasha executed it better and more personal.
slow-paced

I'm not sure how to review this, other than to say I perhaps need a break from non fiction for awhile. Getting through this one was very difficult for me, that is not to say I don't appreciate the ideas presented, but so much of them already felt like common sense. That itself is perhaps a good thing because it implies, maybe, that we have grown as a society since the 90s when it comes to love? I hope so. By the end of the book everything was feeling repetitive and a bit redundant, and at times hooks even comes across as incredibly judgemental. That being said I eventually plan to read more bell hooks, but for now on to more exciting thing

lots of iconic lines out of this one. love is at the core of everything. there's a huge disconnect between what most people think love is and what it actually is. we can get lost in expectations or power. denying the love in your heart for someone/something can be more destructive towards yourself.

"we grasp and grab and never have enough"

i thought this book was a very insightful memoir of bell hook's life and personal experiences with love. there were some parts where she kind of lost me a bit. she expressed that those who had no faith were bound to be lost/stuck in a cycle of lovelessness which i do not agree with at all. she expressed that people are creatures that need community and we do, but there's a weird connotation sometimes at being by yourself makes you a cynical, loveless, & lacking person.

I bought my copy of all about love three years ago and it just sat there on my shelf. I opened this book up in June, at the right time. I have finished this book at the right time. So much of my healing feels affirmed. It also feels like it will be a challenge to continue, but I’ve come very far so it will be worth it.
