"He talked about the past, about patterns repeating themselves, about the rise and fall of the magicians through history. It happens, Jakob, time and time again. No one manages to break out of the cycle—not commoners, not demons, not magicians. We’re all stuck fast, trapped in a wheel of hate and fear—"

“Well, if it’s so easy, Kitty demanded hotly, “how come the magicians haven’t stopped it?”
The Djin gave a cold smile, “Because it would require personal bravery. They never do anything themselves. They rely on us the whole time. Mandrake gives me an order and I obey. He sits at home and I go out and suffer. That’s the way it works.”

Oiiiiii, un mana sliktā atmiņa ļāva no jauna līdz zosenei izdzīvot kapeņu reidu. Pilnībā turas līdzi Stīvoteras creep-tastic līmenim Ditliju alas zondēšanā.

And this why, kids, one does not break into burial sites!

Nu ko, tagad tikai atliek gatavoties triloģijas finālam. A.k.a. the thing living in my head rent-free for the past 16 years.

"Among his other pleasures, Mr. Devereaux had developed a passion for the stage. For some years he had cultivated the acquaintance of the leading playwright of the day, Quentin Makepeace, a gentleman of boundless enthusiasm, who regularly attended Richmond to give the Prime Minister private one-man shows."

very good. It does not read like a trilogy (and seeing that there are at least 4 books - its not)... and it is not a "part 2".. you could read this out of sequence and never know it was part of a series. Good story - and this guy really writes like he's drawing cartoons - or Movie scenes - pretty amazing!

3.5 stars

This novel is a great addition to the Bartimaeus series.

The characters are great. Nathaniel, unfortunately, is more and more like the rest of the magicians, which caused me to like him significantly less than in [b:The Amulet of Samarkand|334123|The Amulet of Samarkand (Bartimaeus, #1)|Jonathan Stroud|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1528705815l/334123._SX50_.jpg|1121748]. However, I loved getting to known Kitty, who was only a side character in the previous book. Bartimaeus and his witt is great, too. In fact, his witt is part of what makes the book so great, and I wished there was even more of him.

The world is just as cleverly built as the first novel, full of magic, politics, and power plays and greedy rulers, and I enjoyed getting to see more of it. Even better, the world is nuanced, realistic, and well-developed.

I'd recommended this fans of intricately built worlds, unique magic, and great characterization. As long as you don't mind the robbing of tombs thrown in. And, you probably want to read the first book in the series, [b:The Amulet of Samarkand|334123|The Amulet of Samarkand (Bartimaeus, #1)|Jonathan Stroud|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1528705815l/334123._SX50_.jpg|1121748], before reading this one.

Content:
A few mentions of lovers kissing and embracing and boys admiring girls.
There are some scary scenes involving an afrit (type of demon) inside a skeleton. There’s a tomb raiding scene which includes descriptive descriptions of rotting flesh.
Mentions of mythology (think, the High Priests of Ra), Egyptian gods, and magical creatures. There was also a mention of King Solomon and his ring, which Bartimaeus supposedly stole.

Selesaii~~

Entah kapan baca buku ketiganya. Mungkin nanti-nanti. Begini pahitnya kena spoiler yang tidak membahagiakan. Huhuhuhu.

Sebel aing
