i was excited to read her royal highness. something quick, fun, and cute to read. but i found it to be not that great.

i didn't like or care for any of the characters. the main character was flat, and the love interest was unconvincing in the mean-then-nice arc she was given.

the relationship came out of nowhere, with hardly any real development made to get them from enemies to the relationship stage. it really felt like the two characters were put together for the sake of them being together, which i know is obviously not how it was written, but it really did seem like that. there was no chemistry, no reason for me to root for them.

the climax and resolution were the most lacking parts of the book. an issue was made from nothing, then almost immediately a resolution that was could have been done so much better. it was solved in a page, gave no room for a real conversation between the two characters, and was unconvincing. this whole section of the book felt like "stupid issue comes up, a bit of talking and advice from characters, apologetic gesture, literally immediate forgiveness, then book just finishes." what just happened? it was completely unsatisfying. it didn't give me the greatest lasting impression of the book either, which is why i didn't rate it highly.

Pros: gay, kinda cute I guess
Cons: oh my GOD American anglophiles* are actually INSUFFERABLE

*or whatever the Scottish equivalent is

i really do love sapphic stories and the plot of this book seemed so interesting and something i’d really be into. it was a cute, fun read but it felt flat at the end, like it had so much potential that was wasted. the writting style was easy to follow but it felt childish at times so idk :/ cute concept though

Absolutely fantastic. The f/f ya royalty fluff I’ve been yearning for for years.
It’s pure fluffy happiness, boarding school adventure/royalty amazingness.

I found the love interest insufferable self-centered and despite supposed growth I was unable to truly engage with her character. Certain plot elements felt unfinished or unsatisfying.

A very wholesome read. A positive, funny and heartfelt experience for queer girls and just queer representation. I literally didn't want to put the book down, I'll be thinking about this book for a long time.
fast-paced

It was fine. Some elements seemed a little rushed. But overall it was a cute book.

I hope we get 6 BILLION of these, because this and Royals (or Prince Charming I think is what it's renamed) ARE SO DAMN CUTE. This story was quick and fast and though I didn't love Millie and Flora quuiiittteee as much as Daisy and Miles, they were still SO ADORABLE I CRY!!!!!

The only criticism I have at all for this book is that I wish Millie's dad and Lee were a tiny bit more a part of it, but that's okay because the rest of the story was so wonderfully cute it make up for it. I really, REALLY hope Rachel Hawkins writes more, especially about Seb because that boy needs help lol. PLEASE WRITE A BOOK ABOUT SEBBBB OR JUST ANYONE IN THIS UNIVERSE, BECAUSE I'LL READ THEM ALL

Seriously, Rachel Hawkins wrote one of my favorite books (Rebel Belle), and I've heard the rest of the series isn't as good but I miiiggghhht give it another try because I'm loving what she's writing so much right now. Highly recommend!

that was actually adorable
