Pros: I'm always up for some women who love other women, and it was a fun twist on an otherwise conventional story. Hilarious and romantic. Very fluffy if you're looking for a breezy read to break up an otherwise dense reading habit (guilty).
Cons: I really would have felt better about this story if it had been set in college? Hear me out: part of my issue with this story is that a 17-year-old shouldn't be this mature and shouldn't be thinking about long term relationships. If they were a bit older and mature, I would have more easily believed that their relationship was real and lasting had they been a bit older and closer to things like marriage. As it stands, Millie is still legally a child, and won't even have the option to stay in Scotland long term (presumably her family will want her back, etc.).
Overall, a fun, quick read. Just don't think too hard about the details, and you'll be fine.

Was bored so I reread this book. Unlike when I read it a couple of years ago this adventure was full of pain and cringe. Reading this book has reminded me why I stay away from young adult. Throughout the entire novel there would be dialogue that resembled the speech of dolls controlled by middle aged people attempting to sound like “the youth.” Some more thoughts I had, the cover of the book the blue one has an image of two girls (one there and the second seen in the first girls glasses) however neither of them had bangs when the main character is described and made fun of for having a fringe multiple times. Also I don’t know anything about the author but I would bet all my money in the fact that she was American and just looked up some Scottish slang because all the dialogue from the Scottish characters sounded like absolute bollocks. On the topic of the Scots, I have a big problem with the royal characters in the book, prince of Scotland, princess of Scotland , these are real titles however they belong to the British royal family because there isn’t a Scottish one, so why did Ms. Rachel feel the need to invent a completely fake royalty instead of changing the British family. I guess I’m just a stickler for accuracy but every time they said royal or queen or some other title I wanted to know what kingdom they belonged to. One would assume the British one because it’s the fucking real one but no that’s not good enough for Ms. Rachel.
3.5 it was cute. listened to the audiobook and i love scottish accents so
I loved every single moment of this YA WLW romantic romp. Utterly charming and snarky to boot. Made me yearn after Scotland and wonder if there are any princesses in my future. I have waited YEARS for the queer equvalents of this ridiculous trope and THANK THE LORD IT HAS ARRIVED IN SPADES IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 2019/2020. Only complaint is I wish the book had been a wee bit longer!
