Okay so basically I’m going to write this review twice. One from the perspective of my closeted twelve year old self and the other from my mostly outed current self.
12 year old me- 5. Freaking. Stars. GAHHHHHH. This book was so freaking good and it made me so very happy and I really just cannot wait to pick it up again and reread it. I loved all of the characters and THE ROMANCE???? AHHH!!! I’ve never read a book with a wlw relationship before and this one was represented so well and it really melted my heart reading about two out and proud girls. I loved the setting and the characters and the plot was good as well as the witty banter. The story was so sweet and it’s probably one of my favorite favorite books!
Current me- 4 stars. This book was very good and I enjoyed it a lot. Even though it was cheesy and very cliché, it was a story that I think needed to be written. How long did I spend imitating princes with their princesses in front of the mirrors as a young child? So long. To have this book now, it feels like a small part of my childhood has been bridged, or at least fixed. I loved the relationship between the two main characters and the story itself was adorable. However, the writing style was a bit bland and I felt that the plot dragged on a little bit. However, I absolutely adored the relationship. It was a quick read and this book made me very happy by filling a hole I didn’t know was in my heart from never seeing wlw princess couples as a child.

Much, much better than its precursor. Maybe I'm biased because I'm a poor sapphic and it feel like this book reached into my fantasies and used them to fill its pages, but wowee.

“The stag is nowhere to be seen, and Flora reaches up to flick her wet hair out of her eyes, her chest heaving as she scans the landscape.
Then she says, “You know what? It’s actually unicorns who are our national animal, not stags. Just remembered.”
Teeth chattering, I glare at her. “Well, maybe one will turn up.”
And then they were roommates...MY GOD THEY WERE ROOMMATES!!
"Her Royal Highness" is about an American girl, Amelia "Millie" Quint, who moves to Scotland. There she begins her journey in her dream school. To add a cherry on top of that, she also has a princess for a roommate. The princess, however, was not very dream-like in terms of her personality. I was quite hyped to discover a book like this. The stories I've come across were mostly about commoner girls with princes. This is similar to those stories but it's sapphic, involving a princess and a commoner girl. This book was real adorable. It was very light and full of fluffiness. This classic enemies to lovers story made me feel this "kilig" (Filipino word for romantic excitement? there is no exact English translation for this). The romantic aspect was very satisfying however I feel as if it could do more.

Romance-wise, it was great. In other aspects, however, it felt pretty lukewarm. The characters did not feel very fleshed out. A few felt very bland and cardboard-like, no dimensions. Even with the main characters, the writer could have done more with them. I wanted to see more moments involving Millie and her love for rocks!! The writing was not bad but it also was not remarkable. Some scenes from the book did not make sense to me, one being their "big" fight.
If you are up for a romantic fluffy and light read, this might be up your alley. A classic enemies to lovers book that will make you feel giddy and funny inside.

The concept sounded really interesting but I wasn't a fan of the author's writing style and the ending felt very rushed. If the book was longer, it might've worked better

Nah seriously, I think im only gonna read gay romance from this point on, the straights have just disappointed me again and again.
