Fossum's characters come to life, and she moved me to empathy even for the bad guys.
The ending was abrupt.

One of the better crime books I've read in this genre. The complete sympathy the mentally ill character gets is culturally shocking because this country does not lend that attitude towards suspected transgressors.
The plot moves along well with the odd development of camaraderie between those working together nicely and naturally done.
I will read another of this author's books for sure.

Errki was a really interesting character. Might have to read the next one soon, though...
Perfect in every way. Tightly plotted, deeply insightful into the characters and breathtakingly focused on the human condition. Outcasts and misfits thrown together who find unexpected solace in each other's company. Superb.
Really enjoyed this one. Karin Fossum has an interesting way of storytelling - the perspective is sometimes from the point of view of the detectives in the story and then it switches to other characters. In this book, it starts out with several events that seem unrelated, but she works the story to combine all the elements together. Sejer's character continues to grow as he begins the journey to move on from his wife's death, seven years prior. There were some unexpected twists for me at the end.
very graphic imagery on the hallucinations ... IMO, a tad too graphic
DNF at 110 pages, could not get interested/intrigued enough to finish this story.

I've never really been a fan of crime novels. In the past, I've only really liked Stieg Larsson and Jeffrey Deaver.
I think I'm more interested in cat-and-mouse kind of crime books. I need a little bit of intensity. I just find most crime books I've read have been boring. I guess the majority of the genre isn't for me.
This was okay. I did find it boring, though.

It was okay. It didn't draw me in as much as Black Seconds or Don't Look Back, but it wasn't bad and I intend to read more by her.
