This was a really great story. Daniel had been an ally in past books but he's finally decided that at 11,000 years, he's had enough and is ready to meet his maker. When he tries to greet the sun he does not die, but is reunited with Serei, the woman he loved and thought he lost so many years before. This was a great story of their love lost, reclaimed, and their battle to do their part to save civilization. But they have been betrayed so many times before, who can they trust?

This definitely was not your typical Atlantean story as the main guy was a vampire, but it still was a great story in this arc. I really liked it, though I have to admit it wasn't my favorite of them all. Serai was a fierce character and I really loved how she woke up to her independence. I can't wait for the next book to come out.

OK back to what I expect from the Warriors of Poseidon books. Good not great. The two characters had chemistry, the plot was good. There was definite humor, perhaps the most humorous of the series for me. The problem, the wrap up was a little forced/contrived.

There were just parts I had issue with that made it just good, not great.

Spoilers ahead.
Spoiler
The Justice attack was a bit over the top since anyone following Daniel and Serai could have figured out he wasn't taking advantage of her- Even a crazed Justice; and where exactly is Keely? Then the portal seemed a bit too contrived to make sure the book proceeded either pulling Daniel where he needed to be, that's ok, but keeping help from them... why? To make everything weighted down at the end. The ending was too neat, all given by the powers that be, the portal, Poseidon. The reasoning for Serai to be hurt, not very good. Reason for Daniel not to escape sooner, oh wait, last minute freakout so that he could give up and life or death for Serai... again. The ending should have been 2 chapters longer and discovered in a different way, not life on the line but love on the line. It was too neatly accepted and wrapped up with. All the jealousies forgotten.

Still it was a good read. It'll be interesting how Daniel is portrayed in the next book. I don't hold much hope for Alaric's book since I am so looking forward to his story. I just know it cannot hold up to expectations. I want a great read for a great character. So far the books I've loved, Justice's and Christophe's, are of the characters I least wanted to read about. And one, Brennan's, who I really thought would be interesting, was a total flop for me. I actually recommend skipping it.

-3.5 stars.

-there was a mistake where a man lifts someone up in the air with his *hands*. except he only has one hand, the other hand was cut off.

"why are you smiling? what kind of deep-shit massive trouble have you brought me that could possibly cause you to move your rusty face muscles like that?"

"ven has chronic mouth-runs-faster-that-his-brain syndrome."

"i believe it is an imbalance in the male brain. they name it testosterone in this time. in mine, we merely called it stupidity."

"i think you have the right to be all kinds of bitter, serai. i also think you're right that we don't have the time for it now. after this, though? we're going to have a big old wallow."
"with cake? there definitely needs to be cake with our wallowing."

"frankly he'd rather have been doing something more fun -anything more fun- like sitting on a beach drinking beer, or, hey, maybe picking porcupine quills out of his ass with a crowbar. had to be more fun than this."

Even though this book contains one of my most hated plot elements (we need to recover a stone to save a bunch of people but let's stop and have sex anyway) I still enjoyed it. I've loved Daniel through the series and I thought he was a great hero here. I ran a little hot and cold on Serai. She could be a bit annoying with her "I'm so powerful - no now I'm weak" back and forth. But her love for Daniel was never in doubt so she won me over in the end. And the ongoing plot in the series continues to keep me interested.

This one was an adventure to me. It took me longer to read. The ending, not the very ending, but the end of the task for Sarai and Daniel seemed a bit forced.

I wasn't in the proper frame of mind to read this. I skimmed a lot :(. Still waiting for Quinn and Alaric's story.
