This book started off strong, and I was loving it until I got to the end. What was that ending???
I have loved every Julia Connors book I’ve read so far, so I was very surprised by this one. The book is fairly good but slow, which I can overlook. It was also way too long, and the storyline was stretched way too far. Again, I can overlook that. I loved the progression of the MC’s and the relationship between Petra and Stella. It was so cute with Stella waking Petra with the ring box! I was happy until I turned the page of that scene because what????
It’s like the story cut off. Petra and Sasha’s relationship has been based around the fact that he wants/needs to adopt Stella, and he needs Petra to help him do that. It seems like that was completely forgotten because after the little proposal, it jumps straight into an epilogue of Petra and Sasha on a baby moon with her friends. They refer to one another as parents, but that big moment of adoption is just kind of forgotten. The logical closing to this book should have been the adoption and rounding out that entire situation, since that’s what the entire book has been about.
Also, did they even say “I love you” one another? Because I don’t remember seeing it.

It was a good read
It was definitely a spicy book, and I can see why it was recommended to me. Although I have to admit that the book felt like it dragged on with different plots and no one was very sure what was happening.
I'm not a fan of flashbacks, so the start of the book was difficult. It was dual pov, though, which was great. I went into this book thinking that it would be single pov from Petra, but then I saw a chapter from Alex's pov and got really excited.
This book doesn't take you long to read it would definitely not be easy to read on a beach, although if you want something to read on a long plane ride, you could do that.
This book doesn't follow the typical plot points for a hockey romance (at least the few I've read so far have all been similar enough) in the sense that she didn't meet his teammates and he didn't really seem to have friends on the team.
Stella was an outstanding character, and by far, my favourite! She was so adorably in charge of everything. Petra and Alex just had to go along with it because it was Stella, and they can't say no to her. She wasn't lost or forgotten about in any part, and the author did a great job of discussing the issues that would happen with Stella's life because, of course she has a life outside of the main characters relationship.
I'm not sure if there were trigger warnings, but there should be for death of family members, non-consensual touching of a minor, human trafficking, forced/arranged marriage with no knowledge and mentioned underage sexual relations.
Overall, it was a good read. I'm just not sure if it has that reread factor.

I wanted to love this book, but I just liked it. I love Julia Connor's books, and I've loved Petra's character from book one of the Frozen Hearts series. This premise had so much potential, with feminism and fighting conditioning young girls at the forefront of the messaging. unfortunately, so much of the book was spent with both main characters spinning their wheels with very little growth and putting that pesky miscommunication trope through the wringer that it was hard to enjoy the really great parts. Then, after all that, it just jumped to a HEA kind of abruptly. Not my favorite of Connor's books, but I'm still glad I read it.

I want her. I want her parenting Stella with me, I want her sitting at my dinner table, I want her wearing my jersey at my games, I want to watch TV on the couch with her at night, and wake up with her in my arms. I want her making decisions with me about our future together. I want us to be the family I never had, and the family Stella deserves. I want forever.
This would've had a much higher rating if not for all the lies that were hanging over their heads the entire fucking book and the lack of groveling on his part when he's the one who fucked up.... sigh, Petra deserved better.

I picked this up because I was craving a good hockey romance. Little did I know that I was getting way more than that. Alex (Sasha) and Petra’s story was one wild slow-burn second-chance romance story. I was instantly connected to these characters. Both strong and vulnerable. I wanted to see them get their happy ending.
Alex and Petra have a long history. I found part of enjoying this book is going in blind so I’ll just say that they were best friends that is until Alex ended the relationship. Fast forward fourteen years. Petra, who has grown to become a successful, strong woman, is asked to come to New York to meet with a mysterious client. Little does she know that Alex is the mysterious client. He is a successful hockey player In the NHL who needs her help. She leaves the meeting feeling shaken not only by the proposal but by seeing Alex again. Seeing Petra has left Alex feeling equally off kilter. It’s the way these two navigate their situation is what kept me reading. They never back down from a good fight but they also never quite open up. The underlying tension between the two of them was equal parts maddening and intriguing. My kindle nearly combusted when they finally acted on their attraction. It was fourteen plus years in the making. It did not disappoint.
All the yeses to this amazing story. I can’t wait to read more from this author. It gave me what I was craving and much more.

I normally am not a fan of second chance romances but this one was really good. Plus it was a hockey fic!? AND he’s a dad (well guardian of his niece but still)?! Hell yeah, sign me up for more of these!
