You know those books where afterwards you just have to sit there in silence, rethinking the story and the characters and the words? This is one of those books. The characters were wonderful people, the plot moving and captivating, and the writing was beautiful. I am so glad I read this. In the beginning, it reminded me of Red Band Society and towards the end, I was greeted by feelings that I haven't felt in a long time.

Zac & Mia, 50bookpledge'in bu ayki seçimiydi. Eleanor and Park ve Aynı Yıldızın Altında'yı sevenlere tavsiye etmişler. Fangirl'ü okuyup pek sevmediğim için Eleanor and Park'ı okumayı denemedim henüz.

Zac'in de odasından çıkması yasak.

When I started this book I figured it was going to be a tear jerker. Unfortunately, I didn't shed a tear, laugh or feel much of anything. I just couldn't get into this book. This was set in Australia and really would have liked if the narrators had Australian accents. I have a thing for accents, so I may have enjoyed the audiobook more.

TFIOS but like for younger kids? A skip for me

Zac & Mia by A.J. Betts tells the story of two teens with cancer. Zac has been fighting leukemia and is in isolation in the hospital when the unrully Mia moves in next door. The two form an unlikely friendship when Mia reaches out months after their hospital stay.

This was a great story. A nice change from the typical sob fest with overdramatic romance that we've seen lately with other similar stories. Zac and Mia were both flawed characters and needed each other. I didn't fly through the book but I did find myself interested throughout and I was very happy with the way it ended.

I recommend this book to readers 14+. There is a bit of sexual content in the beginning of the book but nothing explicit. Mia spends the majority of the story making bad decision after bad decision, the book does a good job of showing why her decisions are wrong.

I first came across Zac and Mia via the Buzz Books. The first chapter was very promising indeed, and I always have a soft spot for Australian authors (I don't know why).

Zac and Mia meet through the walls of a cancer ward in a Perth hospital. It's hard not to start comparing it to The Fault in Our Stars as I feel/fear there might be a tsunami of books coming about star-crossed lover teens with cancer.

It probably wasn't a really good idea from me to read this book while I'm also reading TFIOS, but that one takes ages for me to finish (I've seen the movie already) and my ARCs are just more important now. Luckily, Zac and Mia is less pretentious but the characters, especially Mia are just as annoying. There are many similarities between the books but I won't go into detail, as you can find them in numerous other reviews.

The book is divided into three parts, Zac, with Zac's POV, &, with dual POV of Zac and Mia, and Mia, with Mia's POV. Nice touch. But it meant I had to end with a lot of Mia chapters, and she was very unlikeable for some reason. Most of the book was very easy to read even considering the hard theme. Somehow that never seemed to be the most important part of the book. Although an not unenjoyable quick read I have mixed feelings and felt at times a bit frustrated with certain plotlines. I'm not sure whether to recommend this book or not...

Despite saying I will start keeping track of where I find books to read/who recommends them, I have failed to do so. So here’s a book I found, possibly through the internet, most likely recommended by Carina Mackenzie (book club/young adult book reader/recommender extraordinaire, previously mentioned here), and it almost made it onto the favourites shelf, I loved the story that much.

As soon as I read the first few pages, I immediately felt like I was reading The Fault In Our Stars. I found the characters and their circumstances and the style of writing very similar to that of John Green’s, so the first chapter or so was a struggle. But yay for perseverance, because this story is absolutely beautiful.

Written from two perspectives, Zac & Mia follows the story of two teenagers diagnosed with cancer, one with leukaemia, the other with osteosarcoma. It starts when the two are in hospital room side by side, and the story follows their friendship as it grows. Being a cancer story, I prepared myself for the inevitable bad ending, but it didn’t come. Much like TFIOS, Zac & Mia shows that regardless of your circumstances, you are still capable of living a full, wonderful and loving life.

This is a beautiful book. I’m so happy I picked it to start my holiday reading.
