Was this the best gang war storyline to feature Batman? No.
Was this the best handling of the Riddler since the 90s? Hell yeah!

I really really enjoyed this arc and thought that the art matched the plot flawlessly, both were violet and colourful and I just loved it!
I was honestly astonished that I really really enjoyed the Kite Man origin story which intertwined with the the main plot. Kite Man for me went from being an annoyance to one of the most heartwrenching characters featured within King's Batman run.
The War itself was also great! Of course that may just be me being bias as the two sides were headed by my favourite big bads of Gotham. But I was intrigued with who would side with which villain, and loved any panel featuring Jim Gordon being the brave, Gotham loving, guy that he is.
Another thing I was pleasantly surprised with was the reveal of one of Bruce's most shameful moments, when he first started hinting at it to Cat I was just about ready to roll my eyes thinking that Bats was just being his over-dramatic self but upon hearing what he almost did I could understand why he would feel that way.
Overall, strong arc with minor flaws and fantastic art.

AKA "Batman Year Two"
I can't even begin to explain how much this book impressed me. The new take on Riddler, a Joker that never smiles, and a deeply personal story that doesn't truly reveal itself until the final act.
Bravo.

There was a lot of build up for this arc and I was excited to read it, but the end result seems to have fallen a little bit short. My main problem was that the atrocities and horrors of this war were never shown, they were explained in great details and referred to countless times, but I think seeing it would have made a difference. Secondly, no matter how tragic you make his back story or how badass you make his vengeance on the Ridler, Kiteman is still Kite man.
I read the three leading up to this with hopes that this one would make it worth it but, nah.
I read this all in one go and it's the ONLY way to enjoy this epic story! Brilliant illustrative art with a fast-moving story. This is up there as one of my favourite arcs ever... Get on it now!
