If you asked me to name top 5 villains of Batman both Joker AND Riddler would be on my list. While Joker is insane and his unpredictable tactics make him interesting, Riddler cold calculated, overbearing personality makes him almost as equally interesting. Put them together and at each other throats? Now that...that sounds like a book made for me.
The story starts with Bruce speaking with Selina and telling her what happen years ago. When Joker couldn't laugh anymore and Riddler couldn't solve the puzzle on Batman, and when Riddler offered to work together with Joker, and instead Joker shot him and started the war in Gotham. Instead of chasing the Bats they decided to go after each other to take control of gotham and THEN kill the Bats. For a anyone else this would be a way to get rid of your villains but you know Batman, he can't let that shit fly.
Good: I honestly enjoyed the fuck out of anything with Kite Man in here. Talk about a character I never cared about and turning him into someone I can get behind. HELL YEAH! But really...what happens to him and his family is tragic and really well done. Not in a overly cheesy way, I actually felt for this character, and I loved it.
I also really dug the idea of the way. I know a lot of people probably wanted to see more action but I just loved seeing how Gotham was being picked apart and you caught glimpses of the war. The Deadshot/Slade moment was a highlight and the breaking point for Bruce which came across as wonderful.
I also loved how sinister and dark joker was here. What he's capable of without his "hahahaha" attitude all the time. It reminded me of "Joker" from years ago made by Brain but not as boring. I also really enjoyed Riddler here and his way of going at war was pretty smart and actually interesting.
The ending was a nice touch and can't wait to see the future for Batman.
Bad: The Dinner scene. I mean, I know where in a world with flying aliens, walking talking croc, and a dude named Kite Man. Still...the dinner scene was a bit too much of a stretch. Why not just murder each other there? They're fucking killers. Especially how cold joker is, felt just dumb. This was the only issue I didn't enjoy.
Overall a very very solid entry into the Batman world. In fact I'll say this is probably my favorite arc Tom King has done. I know his run isn't for everyone (and I HATED I am suicide!) but I am Bane was really fun for me and this one was legitimately great. I love when we look away from just Batman and see the world of Gotham. I want more. Nice job king!

The most satisfying arc so far of Tom King's tenure on Batman, this is the kind of story that the superhero sequel films try - and often fail - to tell. Instead of one villain, let's have two and see how Batman/Spiderman/Iron Man/etc. juggles their way out of THIS one! Never been a fan of villain-stuffing superhero sequels, but I'd like to see how Tom King might craft one. This is not a Joker/Riddler team-up, but rather a Joker vs. Riddler tale, with great roles for Batman and Bruce Wayne to play in attempting to keep Gotham safe from collateral damage. Like US forces playing peacekeeper between warring factions in the Middle East. Perhaps metaphor ...

Cynical. Funny. Tense. Another great Batman book from Tom King.
Batman Rebirth is saving the Rebirth universe for me, which up to this point has been filled with disappointing and mediocre stories.
Batman rebirth is totally not that, it is original, fun, and intense. The thing this series manages to do so well is humanize Batman beyond just a caped crusader. Using his engagement with Catwoman to demonstrate an attempt at happiness creates a dynamic of making Bruce Wayne pursuing more then just a war on crime, and this makes his story fascinating.
That said, this novel is almost not about Batman, but rather about Joker and Riddler, in an interesting and intense rivalry, as well as showcasing the back story to Kite Man. This story is used to demonstrate a moment of truthfulness and intimacy between Catwoman and Batman, that I have not seen in a Batman comic yet.
Great story, that really tries something different with the character dynamic

Malo sam nakaradno uskočio u ovog novog Betmena, ali ovo nije bilo loše - svakako je čudno (i originalno) te i vredi videti Džokera kako se mršti. Samo pobogu zašto Ridler izgleda kao žigolo?

Maybe my standards for Batman are just too high but King's Batman run is the only series he's written that I haven't loved. I've tried to get through it a couple times even knowing that his original plans for the series wound up being cut short. This arc is always where it starts to lose me. I like a lot of the ideas in theory. Riddler trying to solve the puzzle of why Joker can't laugh. Batman confessing to a massive moment of weakness from early in his crime fighting career. All the Kite Man stuff is fun. It just doesn't come together. Riddler as a twisted mass murderer never works for me. I never got a strong sense of WHY Joker couldn't laugh. The gravity of this war between Joker and Riddler is mostly conveyed in splash pages of the villains with Batman narrating about how many people died. It just never connects with me. I've never been a big fan of Mikel Janin's work but his specific brand of 3D model-heavy art is especially distracting in this arc. I have a visceral reaction to the way it's put together. It reminds me of those computer generated Spider-Man and Batman comics from the 90s. I might've been a lot more forgiving to this arc if it had been illustrated by David Finch or even Clay Mann who I'm not crazy about either. I'm gonna try to power through it this time and see if I can get to the end of his run but I almost gave up on this a couple of times again so we'll see how far I get.
Anyone who calls themselves a Batman fan needs to read this book! Set in the early years of Batman’s career, this book starts the rivalry between Joker and Riddler. A fight that lasts for weeks and involves almost every resident of Gotham! Batman himself is telling the story through flashback, but he’s not a driving force, rather these villains take center stage and create interesting drama. Both Joker and Riddler are very different from most people’s perceptions of them. Riddler is far more cold, calculating, logical, and manipulative; and at some point Joker lost his sense of humor and is on a side quest to reclaim it, so now he’s pure rage and madness. The dialogue here and the artwork is amazing! An excellent Batman book!
