Depressing

I absolutely hated this book, however, it’s personal and not against the author. 1) I have respect for the author and the theme 2) as a new reader (I read three books in 2023 and now trying to read 24 in 2024) this was a terribly re-entry to re-start reading for fun because of the writing style (for me) and though the language is beautiful, based on who you are - it was SO hard for me, again, as a born-again-reader 3) I ended up becoming invested in the character halfway through the book and needed to finish seeing where the journey finished; and as I did so the book got “better”

A lovely little lab listen.
There’s nothing like pondering lines like “For what is a girl but a vessel made to hold the desires of men” while centrifuging mud.

After reading Matrix, which I loved, I had high expectations for this book. The language was beautiful but it wasn't enough to carry the book through. Each section felt like a reiteration if the previous one, and it really bored me after a while. The book does not have any push to it, and does not have the electrically charged power of Matrix. It took me two weeks to read this short book, which is telling as to how it failed to capture and pull me in. After I finished it, I asked myself "What was the point?"
