The writing was unique and vivid, but this wasn’t one of my favorite reads. I was initially drawn to the book by its cover, and while I appreciated the general premise of the plot, there were several scenes that gave me a visceral reaction... 🤢

Groff is such a beautiful writer. American settlers is not a topic I would normally be interested, but the main character goes through such an awakening, the nature descriptions are stunning, writing was fantastic.

i agree, bear grylls could never. but of a slog throughout but enough punch to keep me going. as a non-outdoorsy person i love to live through characters who can sustain and be so resourceful as our dear main character. really rooting for her throughout the book, but it's literally just about her navigating the unforgiving wilderness and finding solutions to typical hurdles you'd face trying to make it as a city girlie in the wilderness
