This was my first time reading a Lauren Groff book although I've been meaning to for some years. The story was tragic and gripping. Everything was terrible and I still flew through and loved it. The imagery is spectacular and my dreams are haunted by the man-beast.

Struggling to rate this one, maybe a 2.5. Obviously Groff is a beautiful writer. The words of this story are gorgeous and so descriptive I felt nauseous at parts that were so graphically accurate about one’s survival in the wilderness. This book, however, as also a bit of a slog to me. I kept with it and it is relatively fast but I can’t say I enjoyed it for the story’s sake. It is bleak so be prepared for that.
This was sad to read but also so, so riveting. Short, too! (Under 300 pages)
Easy read, a cousin to Gary Paulsen's Hatchet. I loved Groff's Matrix, but didn't think The Vaster Wilds approached the same level as far as the beauty of the language I saw in Matrix.
