This is a case of “it’s not you, it’s me”. Premise was interesting but I was not invested in the story or characters.

This is a delightful romantic comedy and one that I consider a hidden gem: talk about boats, trains, and an accidentally stolen automobile! I was really here for a story with elements of a gender-reversed Princess Diaries that was action-packed. My nerdy-brainy self loved this story with each turn of the page and I highly recommend adding this to your TBR.

Meet Wren Wheeler. She's an American teenager stranded in London, England. It wasn't supposed to be this way. She was just supposed to be on her life-changing trip for senior-year, but once there, all she really wants is to go home. It's the last day and there is only one item left to check-off on her itinerary, and that's breakfast at The World's End restaurant. She arrives, and the restaurant is closed. Perfect. But then she sees a boy... a very cute boy...

Meet Theo. He's the British crown prince with a posh accent. He also happens to be on the run from the palace and his controlling mother. He meets a girl outside of a restaurant and she helps him escape a swarm of tourists. He offers her a favour in return, scribbling his number down and giving it to her. Then the unthinkable happens: a comet is approaching Earth and the world is ending in eight days. And she calls, looking for that favour…

Read what happens when they strike a deal: she will be his bodyguard from London to his family in Santorini, and he will charter his private jet to take her home in time to say goodbye to her family.

This book was a delight I didn’t see coming. The summary made it sound like a fun read, but I really was not prepared for just how much fun it was. It really made me rethink my image of the apocalypse and had me thinking about the book and love when I wasn’t reading. I really enjoyed the authors use of humour, as there were points in the book where I was crying and questioning why I was even here. Hahaha that was a fun moment for my husband to walk in on! Yes, there was a mountain of Kleenex beside me and I was crying through my tears. It was a moment!

I’m really hoping for a sequel to this story, as I would love to see where the characters go and what happens in this wacky, loveable world. Be sure to read this book before it’s too late (haha, get it?)!

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and Wednesday Books for a temporary e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Okay, so here's the deal with The Prince & the Apocalypse – it's like the ultimate love child of a YA romance and a disaster movie. Kara McDowell serves up a delicious cocktail of swoon-worthy romance and impending doom, and let me tell you, it's a combo you didn't know you needed until now.

Wren is in London on her senior trip and everything is not going as planned. Her final attempt to mark one item - the last item on her itinerary - breakfast at The World's End restaurant is thwarted b because it's closed for renovations. That's when she runs into Theo, the missing prince that everyone is looking for. When she helps him escape, she winds up missing her flight home, and that's when she learns that the world is ending in eight days when a massive comet will strike the earth.

description

I'm not a big fan of the insta-love, but I can see how Wren and Prince Theo would fall quickly given the circumstances. The middle bogs down a little, but then it picks back up the last six chapters.

But hold onto your seats, folks, because McDowell doesn't just stop at throwing her characters into the chaos. Oh no, she gleefully dangles them over the edge of a cliff – both literally and figuratively – and then drops the mother of all cliffhangers at the end. I mean, seriously? But hey, I'm not complaining (well, maybe just a little). Because despite feeling like McDowell just played a cruel prank on us readers, I have to admit, I'm kind of hooked. I need to know what happens next. I need to know if our star-crossed lovers will defy the odds and find their happily ever after amidst the chaos.

So, if you're into heart-stopping romance, impending apocalypses, and endings that leave you simultaneously satisfied and cursing the author's name, then this might just be your next guilty pleasure read.
