A Very D Christmas by Jane Seville

So...I'm reading A Very D Christmas and ironically in the background the television is playing True Detective and I look up and see this:

At which point I think to myself, "Hmmmph, well that's certainly another way to deal with a 12 year old bully". Not that I'm really a proponant of THAT level of violence; but what I didn't like about AVDC - was the idea that 12 year olds aren't really "responsible for their behavior" and that in essence they get a free pass because "in 10 years they'll look back and feel ashamed" and "anything you do will make it worse". Well to quote True Detective pyscho boy "Fuck That". I would have liked to have seen D put a little fear of God into the rotten little bastards - nothing helps learning life lessons along better than real world consequences.

Anyway - other than that; the story was nice but it sort of meandered and there were a lot of weird inconsistencies. Not just character names but plot inconsistencies - like what happened to D having to get a new SS number because Anson Dane number 1 bit the big one - and his sister would have known this. And since when does Jack hate his family? I thought there was a lot of moaning and groaning about having to "give up his life and never see family and friends again"?

I still like D - and I like him better now that his "accent" seems to have mysteriously disappeared.

When I saw how long it was, I was nervous. But surprisingly, I really enjoyed this!

Jack and D are settled and happy. Christmas is around the corner and D gets in contact with his sister who invites them over for Christmas. A few bumps on the road, but it really as sweet as a Christmas story is supposed to be. No crazy car chases, shootings or real violence, but a sweet awkward family reunion.
I really liked to revisit the settled couple and really wish there was a sequel on the horizon. But since this was published 10 years ago, I think that will never happen.

“Hey. Doc.”
“Hmm?”
“Remember when I said you were an overbearing nag?”
Jack snorted. “Which time?”
“Well–thanks.”

These two>>>
Oh, it’s bad for me. I need an extensive series about these two. I love Jesse, he has no couth. I love how supportive D and Jack are of each other. I love D. He always is just lookibg for family, people that he can anchor himself around, and he has that. That’s so good for him.

Reading this Christmas story just made me sad this author hasn't written more (in this universe or for an entirely new series).

This one was okay, but looks like there won’t be a sequel as expected. :’(

Why is this series so good? Even though this is just a little novella, I really enjoyed it. WHEN IS THE SECOND NOVEL COMING OUT!!! Damn you Ms Seville for keeping me in suspense!!

D connecting back with his family, a nice look into family dynamics as well as messages about acceptance.
Nice rounding off to date.
Am still hopeful for a full sequel!

A cute wee short showing the human side of D. Jack persuades D to get in touch with his sister and before you know it, they are off Indianapolis for a Xmas dinner. We get a bit of family drama and angst with a few kisses thrown in. Okay reading but too short to be truly satisfying.
