An unexpected and odd book that I at times had to put down and at times was obsessed with. The early chapters focusing on childhood I felt were the best, even if they were upsetting and uncomfortable. Lost me in the middle during adulthood and I don't even know how to feel after the sudden developments at the end of the book.

The first half was definitely hard to read, but truthfully I couldn’t put it down. I’ve been trying to get into more Japanese contemporary fiction but somehow this seemed completely different. The entire book was insane and sad and just everything at once. Definitely not a book for everyone, but interesting nonetheless.
