Its a bit memey. It felt very 2020s, which i guess makes sense becauss thats what it is. I have to say i did not expect the romance. I did go into this book knowing nothing, though. I liked a lot about this book. I disliked some things.

A fun idea executed in a mediocre way. I can’t help but feel like when people write like *that*… they don’t really mean it and have instead just spent the entire time thinking of the most complicated way of painting a picture for their reader. It’s exhausting rather than charming though.

Looking at some of the other reviews, I am having a very similar reaction to this book. It started off so strong - it really reminded me of one of my favourite books The Humans by Matt Haig. I loved the humour, I loved the discussions on humanity, how awful and weird people are, as well as delving into topics such as racism, gender, sexuality, refugees, politics, climate change and so much more. But where I was tabbing like crazy and getting the 5 star feels at the start of the book, it started to go downhill at about 50%.
My issues were primarily that I really didn’t like the female main character, hated the romance, and really lost steam with the plot. I think that perhaps the author was trying to do too much with this story, and I would have enjoyed this much better as a slower paced novel without all the twists and turns, or else turn this into a proper scifi thriller. In the end the blend of scifi action and literary story just didn’t work for me.
However I would read another book by the author.
