Did I like Arthur Less as a person? No. Do I think Arthur Less is supposed to be a likable character? Also no. I honestly think that Less is supposed to be a shitty character who is unlikable and the author seems very self aware of that fact throughout the novel based on a conversation between Less and another character in I believe the 2nd to last chapter. But I did find him very enjoyable to read about although he represents a very shitty side of the gay community that I hate.

I did really enjoy reading this story and thought it had a lot of good funny moments in it.

This was cute, charming, and witty but didn’t change my life. There were points that made me smile but ultimately I wasn’t invested in Arthur at all.

Andrew Sean Greer writes wittily and charmingly about Less' escapades past and present. Less is an extremely likeable protagonist and I found myself rooting for him. Some of the situations that Less experienced were so ridiculous that I frequently laughed out loud.

Going into writing this review, though, I wasn't sure what to say. This book is good; I enjoyed it. However, nothing about it particularly wowed me. I generally don't choose to read lighthearted romps like Less. If that suits you - you may just love it! Personally, I was underwhelmed.

This novel found me at a perfect time! The main character, Arthur Less, goes on a world tour to avoid going to his ex’s wedding, as he also frets about turning 50. It was a lovely mix of heartfelt musings on life, love, and aging, while also giving the reader a healthy dose of satirical humor to prevent it from getting too cheesy. A sarcastic gay man’s Eat, Pray, Love, if you will. The plot made me even more excited to do my own traveling soon, and it really put my fears of turning 30 into perspective. Arthur would have LOVED to be turning 30! I’m reminded that nothing is ending (unless I say it is). I like looking at a new decade as a beginning instead! I hope on my own adventures I get to meet some interesting characters like Arthur did. I enjoyed Sean Greer’s style, and Robert Petkoff is an INCREDIBLE narrator. He is remarkably adaptable.
