“What’s the best part of being in Hermes cabin?
Connor: You are never lonely. I mean seriously, new kids are always coming in. So you always have someone to talk to.
Travis: Or prank.
Connor: Or pickpocket. One big happy family.”

even though i read the og percy jackson series three times in the span of seven years, i have never read any of the short stories collected in this, which is a goddamn shame, considering that these actually impact the full-length novels. often, my problem with extra short stories is that they are just fillers with no relevance, but this wasn't the case with these.

Percy Jackson and the Stolen Chariot ★★★★

Percy is in class when he spots Clarisse outside being attacked, so, as a hero would, he helps her to get back Ares' chariot from her immortal brothers, Phobos and Deimos who have stolen it to tease her.

-so basically this has some more Clarisse content and we get to see more of her nicer side. i love how she was just a regular bully in the first book, and we came far enough to show that she is more than that.
-she is still an asshole, but isn't completely awful.
-the story itself isn't that exciting, but i enjoyed the Clarisse-Percy teamup a lot.
-also Phobos and Deimos make an appearance, and they are trash, and i love that.

Percy Jackson and the Bronze Dragon ★★★

this is set in the camp before the fourth of july, Beckendorf and Percy are on the same team for capture the flag, while they discuss asking their crushes(Silena and Annabeth respectively, ofc) to the fireworks, and they find a bunch of myrmekes carrying a head of a bronze dragon.

-the first appearance of Festus->i have always wanted to know how they stumbled upon him, and we learn his history, which was cool.
-the myrmekes also make an appearance, i thought they haven't before the hidden oracle, but i was wrong.
-it was nice to get some extra Beckendorf and Silena.
-however the plot was kinda boring.
-percabeth content. i'm not a huge percabeth fan, but if you are, you are more likely to enjoy this aspect of the story.

Percy Jackson and the Sword of Hades ★★★★★

in this, mysteriously the kids of the big three, Nico, Thalia and Percy are taken to the underworld by Persephone and they have to retrieve Hades' new sword by a demigod who stole it before the time runs out.

-this was my fave story in the collection by far.
-i mean Thalia, Nico and Percy are working together?? the team-up i needed so badly.
-content i'm always willing to see: Percy caring about Nico, and this had it, thanks.
-it's set in the underworld. what else do i have to say?
-the demigod who stole the sword is one of my underrated and kind of under-developed faves, so i was happy to see him again.
-the ending was pretty nice.
-also this is so important for house of hades. okay i read it twice without reading this short story, but what happens is referenced in the book, and a character you only see in this shows up and plays a big role, so?? i was always so confused by when he first appeared bc i didn't know him and now i know why.

other extra content:

-interviews with six characters: these are a couple of pages and didn't add much to the story, but i liked seeing some of the background characters again, like the Stoll siblings.
-Percy's summer report card: this was actually a really fun addition. i always love reading about camp activities, so this was cool.
-a map, a letter, bios of some characters, a guide to the bigger gods and a bunch of games: i didn't really care about these i didn't even read them besides the letter.

anyways this isn't the best thing ever, but i'm glad i finally picked it up and i'll definitely be including this during my next reread of the series.

Actual Rating; 3.5

I really enjoyed this loved the map of Camp Half Blood and all the short stories. Only wish I'd read this before The Last Olympian.

I just bought this book for the sake of completing all Percy Jackson series.

Its a jolly read. No need to sit and concentrate, contains some boring interview of the characters, various Greek God details.

Totally, I wouldn't recommend you to try this.
