This book officially solidified that anyone willing, could just grab a laptop, close their eyes, and vomit type any and all words, thoughts, names, and conversations in random combinations, smoosh them all together into enough pages to call it a book, and get it published.
How does this foolishness even exist?!?!?!

Read this in one sitting for a creative writing class, and might I just say…wow.
On second read: not as impressed.

I wrote a review here
Dream Fever by Samanta Schweblin is a short novel translated from Spanish and written solely as a conversation between a woman named Amanda who is in a hospital for some reason and a boy David. The book being about a hundred pages is just perfect if you’re looking for something to finish up in one sitting (and preferably alone on a comfortable chair). The story unravels as Amanda recalls and narrates the incidents which might have caused her to be in the said hospital clinic, to David while he tries to make her see where things went south.
The story takes hold of you just 20 pages in and keeps you on the edge of your seat till the last full stop. I don’t really read horror fiction and this was probably my second or third horror novel but it made me realize what I’ve been missing out on!
This is not for you if you’re weak of heart or can’t handle pure, sick horror. This is not for you if you don’t like thinking about a book hours after you’ve finished it. But if you are brave enough, give it a spin, and you will not be disappointed (or be able to forget).

This was gripping - managed to read it in less than 4 hours because I couldn’t put it down.
The story follows a meandering dreamlike conversation between a dying mother and a little boy named David as they walk through miserable event during her vacation. There are no chapters which makes for a fast paced and unbroken read. Without any real gore or explanation it’s a dreadful experience that I can only guess will be very different upon second read. The story is jarring and really lives up to the title.
I enjoyed the authors style and hope to read more by them in the near future!
