I liked the cringe t-shirts the characters wore.

Took a while for me to get invested, but once I hit mid-way(ish), I finished it super quickly. The author had a very delicate and real way of describing family relationships and parental trauma and what a complex concept family can be. It was really beautiful and diverse.

The radio sessions felt a little cheesy and the stories felt a bit repetitive, but they definitely drove a point home. The love story was very tender and the characters maintained themselves as real people, versus falling into the trope of “perfect partner that does everything for the main character”.  I love the way multiple forms of relationships and love were explored.

Took me a while to get into and then once I did, I could only partially connect to the characters despite there being a lot of relatability. There's a lot of repetition and it felt like it was dragging on, especially towards the end. The story is serious with a sweet tone and I really liked how magical the writing felt. I would love to read something by Morgan Rogers again, but rather with characters that don't read like a fever dream because while it was very intruiging, the execution was just a bit ill-fitting.

I cannot for the life of me give Honey Girl a 4 star rating. I want to because I related to some of the mental healing.  But  when it comes to the self-care at many points it felt like avoidance when there were other characters , humans who  cared about  Grace Porter  willingly and able to listen. Thing is  not everyone has or will get that. Which is the flaw of the major progress  she has for me .

I was patient reading while Grace recovers from being a perfectionist who has a plan laid out for her.  One she has been focused on through her late teens and entire twenties.  Not to mention recovery from the expectations by her military black dad. And a nomadic mom , whose white, that left her all alone with these pressures.

But she has some tendencies that are straining her relationships. Most often when she gets afraid or overwhelmed and runs from Portland to New York City   and then  Sansbury, Flordia. It happen every tim  she felt the urge to be stubborn and wanted to push her family away. Even those  she met over the years.

I'm all for space but she completely didn't  let anyone who understood know what was going on with her .  Which is okay for someone who has the pressure of a career goal. But a the same its like not like everyone has it together. Like has a full on PhD and those ready to be supportive about  the issues  in one academic  program.  But maybe if this was me after eleven years of my life I'd understand it better.

I absolutely adore this book. I can't even explain how much.

I read this book because I saw it had a fanfiction trope and i needed a silly light read. It's pretty self-explanatory that a book with this prompth will be cute, and it is in many ways. I love the dynamics of having to get to know your wife, specially when you don't live in the same city. Their funny little chats with each other. That they joke of divorce and wills. I do that with my best friend that I'm kinda married to. And with my best friend I am married to. They also have these cute and reflective phone calls that just warms my heart.

I love all the friends in this book the most, they're extremely well written, dimensional characters. Found family as far as the eye can see. She makes me want better friends. The way book shows platonic love is gorgeous. Platonic love in books, and in real life is very underrated. The language used makes you warm when you read it. Some would call it sickly-sweet, but it's balanced by real life struggles.

Grace as a character are extremely relatable to me, how she's so focused on the path and finishing your degree and then to realise when you are on the other side that you don't know what to do now. How that can really affect you mentally, I see myself in that, specially since she's experiencing it as a 29 year old.

So, even though I went into this book thinking I would just read a lighthearted-book with a fanfic trope, and it definitely was a lot more than that, it was an amazing read.

The whole book just makes me feel bigger than myself. Read it!

I really enjoyed reading this.
I heard a lot of mixed reviews for this but I decided to go into it with an open mind and I’m happy I did. This isn’t exactly a romance, more so a story of a woman trying to find her place in the world after her graduation but the romance that was present was really enjoyable. As a black queer woman struggling to find my place in the academic and real world this book really hit home for me and I found myself relating to everything that Grace (or Porter) felt. There were some questionable moments from her friends and Yuki but overall reading about her trying to find her place and deal with the overwhelming expectations of life after graduation was really enjoyable.
