I had a thoroughly fantastic time reading this. I felt very nostalgic reading this. Ellie’s voice really did come through in the way it did in the original books when I read those in the early 00s – although it admittedly did at times feel slightly like she was still 14 – and I loved the little references to other JW books dotted throughout. I think if you enjoyed the original books, you’ll enjoy this too – it was a genuinely fun time.

I did enjoy this something different to my normal reads. Did feel a bit rushed in places but overall a good read.

The experience of reading this was pure joy and nostalgia, I was 9 again in my childhood bedroom staying up way past my bedtime because I couldn’t put a book down
Jacqueline I love you but I just really couldn’t get behind a lot of this!
The writing felt so cringey and so similar to how her books were for teens (which for nostalgia I liked) but there wasn’t any growth from Ellie age 15 to Ellie aged 40 which I just got annoyed at
I just really disliked the teacher dynamics with Gary and Ellie and it made me feel really icky - I also just felt like girl tell him you don’t like this stuff and maybe he will change but you inner monologuing is not helping
Lottie meets her dad who LIES about knowing about Ellie being pregnant and that’s just kind of it and nothing satisfying happens
Also I feel like only right at the end did she have feelings for Alice and the whole being gay thing came out of nowhere with no feelings or wondering - she was with Gary and then ended up with her friend immediately afterwards and I just didn’t believe it
Magda and Nadine were also such flat side characters who I didn’t care about at all but were dealing with such sensitive issues which we could’ve really explored!
