When a group of red-eyed passengers wake up to an empty plane, empty except for important things like dental fillings, a pacemaker, and surgical implants, it's painfully obvious something is wrong. But that's only the beginning of their trouble.

Admittedly, I saw the made-for-tv miniseries before I read the book, and I was much, much younger, and it creeped me out so bad. The langoliers CGI didn't hold up well over time but the eerie atmosphere of the emptiness and the characters did.

So, I read the book with that miniseries in mind.

I liked the characters though I wasn't a huge fan of how every woman, even the little girl, felt on the edge of hysteria. I also enjoyed the plot, the atmosphere felt both empty and open and claustrophobic all at once. It was creepy, dark, and an interesting thing to imagine.

Glad I got the chance to read it and felt it was a good addition for my library.

DID NOT FINISH: 11%

Just not for me

Notable for the first story 'The Langoliers', brilliantly conceived and written that it just grabs you by the throat and leads on to line after line. The rest (Secret window, Secret garden, The Library Policeman, Sun Dog) are just as brilliant and haunting, 'Four Past Midnight' will always be one of the best I've ever read.
