These were ok, but just ok. The stories took far too long to get started and then felt rushed and anticlimactic at the end. I think there was at least one point in each where someone was so frightened that their hair turned white or they aged a decade. Bonus (negative) points for all the weird metaphors: "a scream, high and drilling, like a woman who is dying in the throes of a breech delivery"...weirdly specific, but ok?

The Langoliers: eerie and despairing and beautiful. 5 stars

Secret Window, Secret Garden: very intense psychological battles. 3.5 stars

The Library Policeman: way too long and not that interesting. 2 stars

The Sun Dog: just mid, I don’t know what to say other than that I am now reconsidering reading Needful Things at all. 2 stars

I find it amazing how often King can write stories with the same ingredients and still surprise me every time! This one has, as his classic novels do, a young girl with paranormal gifts, a few leaders who take charge beautifully, and a nutcase to make everything go awry, and a thrilling premise.

One about a red-eye flight ending up taking some of its passengers to a place they couldn't dream of... and they're not alone.

This novella is fast-paced, creepy and thrilling, and exactly what I hoped for as a palate cleanser. If you're into thrillers or gore-less horror, this is definitely one for you!
