I think this was an interesting concept and I had a good time with it. I liked the characters and the world. The Nightmare was such a cool character I liked the dynamic that he had with Elspeth. The ending surprised me and I'm looking forward to reading the next one.

Good connection between Raven and Elspeth. Unique magic system that kept me intrigued and wanting to learn more! Loved the dark gothic setting and the woods magic keeping them hemmed in was also very unique. Wish the cards had been utilized a bit more but I have good hopes for book two. Also interested to see how the Shepard king is going use Elspeth and his control over her to help the Yew family.
