I can’t recommend this memoir enough. Julia Fox is a fantastic writer and I truly hope she writes a follow up to this novel. When I realised that she narrates her memoir on audible I listened along while I read and it was truly an experience

I’ll be honest and say I didn’t know who Julia Fox was until she was dating Kanye West. I never really took an interest and forgot about her quickly after the short affair was over, but she kept popping up on my feed here and there. When her book came out I saw everyone raving about it, but it wasn’t until fashion commentator Nicky Bell raved about her as a fashion icon that I decided to pick it up. (I know, I’m a lemming.)
So, who is this enigma Julia Fox?
A hedonistic italian girl following the path of least resistance to and through drugs - surviving several OD’s, Hollywood and other artistic pursuits. She will deliver herself to you on a platter, bare it all, the good the bad and the ugly. If there's one thing I love about this book, it's how she shamelessly owns every single joy and misstep without filter.

Her earliest chapters are the ones with the most heart. A young girl just wanting to be loved and cared for. Seeking attention and pleasing many of the wrong people to try and get that fulfillment. You can hear her losing that throughout the book. Hardening little by little. Numbing with every quick fix she comes across. It’s a sad story, really. And an all too familiar one that can end in only one of two ways.
Julia’s story ends with redemption. Pursuing self-love and having a child. She mellows, she finds purpose and stops chasing temporary highs through pleasing people.

I saw an interview with her where she states that she's unsubscribing to catering to the male gaze. And I applaud her for that. But one thing struck me even more, she said - “am I going to chase the way I used to look, or am I going to evolve and see what’s on the other side?” Brava, Julia. Brava!

It's more like 3.5. I enjoyed this way more than I expected to, even though her life sounds so exhausting. How can you have a new best friend to do drugs with every year since the 6th grade? And then lose touch with that person after a few years, and then a decade later rekindle your friendship and do even more drugs? Insane. Also lol @ the last chapter about Kanye being actually far less titillating than what most people assumed.
