I just don't get the hype over this one. So many 4 or 5 star reviews on Amazon and 4+ stars on Goodreads can't be wrong, can they? (Yes).
Although I liked the artwork, the story is not compelling and the characters are immature, shallow, and selfish. In the end I was hoping that the main character Katie would just disappear with her mushrooms and the story would focus on Hazel, who seemed to have more substance to her.
Someone even compared this to Watchmen? I just don't get it. I don't think that person actually read Watchmen, or didn't get the significance of the references within.

I always write graphic novels off as being childish and full of super heroes but I am continuously proven wrong. Seconds deals directly with the hardships of making choices as a young adult and the reality that while these choices may not always lead to the outcome that you desire they still help to shape you into the person you are today. As a mid-twenty year old, I found this story to be super relatable and a great reminder that the decisions you make don't have to be the end-all-be-all; sometimes a little communication is all it takes to fix what seems like a horrible outcome.

Better than Scott Pilgrim imo.
Minor: Injury/Injury detail
Oh wow, I liked this much better than Scott Pilgrim or Lost at Sea. Probably because I relate a lot more to the main character (hard-headed perfectionist). I think this is a lot more adult than his last books, but also still really cartoony and funny. I just liked the idea of this one a lot better.
I'm trying to branch out into graphic novels more this year, so I ordered this one. It looked interesting.
I have to say that the physical book (dust jacket, cover, end pages) is so well done. It is so pretty. I love a well packaged book. And when reading a graphic novel, I feel that the onus falls heavier overall on making it as physically appealing as possible over other less visual genres.
The illustrations are gorgeous. They vary from fun and spunky to dark and disturbing to fit the plot. I kept finding myself impressed with how well I felt I knew the characters from the visuals since there is way way less expository from the narrator. Speaking of that, I was tickled with the protagonist's interactions with the narrator. I don't see that too often. It gave me a bit of a Huck and Twain feeling.
The plot itself was strange but not too far out, and the resolution was satisfying. It was a quick read; I couldn't put it down.
I'm probably going to read some other works by this author.

I didn't think it was as funny as the Scott Pilgrim books, but nonetheless the artwork is fantastic and it was an interesting story.

Immaculately done. Packed an emotional punch, might of related to Katie a bit too much. Love that her friendship with Hazel became the one constant throughout the book. That she had to let Max go to fix their relationship in the long run.
